Need trade advice

Hi everyone,

Looking for expert input. I have a BNIB blue dial Tag Heuer Monaco that I wish to trade. I have gone to my local dealer and have been offered the following trades.

Monaco + $700 = Sea Dweller circa 2001 but no bracelet B+P I think...
Monaco + $1200 = Explorer II 16570 polar circa 2001 B+P
Monaco + $1500 = Explorer II 16570 polar circa 2007 B+P

I own a 5513 sub and have a GMT BLNR ordered.

What would you do?

Thanks in advance.

Can't you make a better deal by selling it yourself?

^ That's what I was thinking. Try selling it here yourself in the classifieds section.

I could but for ease of sale and trade purposes it is cleaner. I have committed to the monaco on interest free and effectively will be on trading it immediately for a watch I desire more. Not economically perfect but allows me to have a nice watch that gives me 1000 days to pay off.

Do you think it is a bad deal?

My gut tells me it is a good deal on the sea dweller...

Like both pieces but am I overpaying for the polar?

Some people may think I am stupid. I suppose I should make it clear I am getting the BNIB monaco for around $4400-4500 USD which is way under retail as I believe.

Still looking for people's view on the 3 options...

If you must and only those 3 options. I'd go for the explorer II. No bracelet for the SD and you already have a sub. Go for the polar which will give you variety in your collection.

Option 3.

I'm a little lost here?

Do you own the Tag or not?

You paid/will be paying $4,500 for the Monaco, yet you could get a good used Explorer II with box and papers for that price. But you are trading it and substantial cash for one. Sounds like something is wrong here. Or am I missing something?

What do you mean you're getting a BNIB monaco for $4400-4500? I thought you had a BNIB monaco and that's the watch you're considering trading away. Right?

I'd save until you had enough. These watches aren't going anywhere.

It's always best to sell yourself. Good luck with your upcoming purchase.

Sell it on your own.

If you are paying $4500 for the Tag, and then threw in another $1500 for a 16570, it is not a good deal. ~$6k would get you the 216570.

Takes more work, but sell it on your own.

Exactly. The numbers show the trades are not a good deal.

Somebody out there will give you a 40mm Explorer 2 interest-free for less than 6k, right? This seems unnecessarily complex.

If you own a Sub and GMT already I guess I don't get the desire to financially dance between two dealers for another one.

Edit: In any case, if you already purchased it, I vote for keeping the Monaco. You already have a 40mm Rolex with a GMT function!

I feel the OP.. been there done that, Tags don't hold values, even they are BNIB, just not as popular as Rolex/PP. from my personal experience with dealing with selling and trading up, what was offered to OP is reasonable and within range.

As already stated, you are losing a substantial amount of money doing any of these trades. And I can't tell if you own the watch or not, so I don't know what to tell you.

i would pass. just get a Pledge Membership and punt the monaco in the classifieds if its in your possession.

- would also be good to know the monaco as there's a HUGE variance in prices for those watches depending on the model.
