Speedy pro vs speedmaster 9300 44mm

What do you guys think comparing the omega speedmaster 44mm 9300 vs the manual wind moon watch speedy pro?

is double the price tag on the 44mm 9300 movement worth it over the original speedy moon watch?

Just some thoughts? What do you prefer? Or get? Post some cool pictures if you got them compression.

WatchTime recently did a comparison on this you should check out.

It was in their Annual Watch Tests edition (and maybe online as well).

Bottom line as I recall was that the 9300 was the better watch overall but the original was the better value (90% of the watch at 50% of the price).

I guess it depends if you want to own the newest and best or the icon.

I picked the icon and love it.

I've owned both. And I've owned 2-3 of each. It drove me mad. I could not decide. Here is where I landed and why.

I am 6'/250 and have a near 8 inch wrist. And the Speedy 9300 is a TANK. Whether that is good or bad is up to you. It has a date, automatic, in-house. I wanted to love it sooooo much. The look is modern, yet classic. Is has it all. But I sold it...three times.

The Speedy Pro isn't in-house, no date, no auto. It's smaller with less presnece. But I just could not get over the fact that it is the most perfectly sized and weighted watch I've ever worn. And the stunning look goes without saying.

So go with the Pro. The history, the iconic design, the perfect combination of weight and size. I will stress...it's not for everyone...but it's certainly for most.

There is no doubt in my mind that it is a winner.

Oh, and when you get your new Moonwatch, you can start thinking about which piece you will buy with the $3k that you have left over.

If money is not a concern, I would pick the 9300 over the Pro but only on the black gator strap.

If you want the bracelet option, get the Pro.

I've agonized over this too as a Speedy or El Primero will be my next acquisition. Like Rpcody, my preferences are heavily weighted towards the 9300 because it is an automatic, and has an in-house movement, sapphire caseback, and date function. So I've tried them on in Omega boutiques. I have a small wrist at 6.5" and the 9300 is certainly the upper limit of what I feel I can wear and I like it. Coincidentally, I also tried the "smaller" Speedy 57 but the long and straight lugs made the watch wear worse on me than the bigger 9300. When I tried the Moonwatch, it just seemed perfect. No bling factor, but just seemed like perfect blend of size/proportion, looks, and legibility. Now I still haven't pulled the trigger and still am looking for a deal on a 9300, but posts like these remind me why the Moonwatch is so popular. It's because it is such a great watch that works for little guys like me and bigger guys like Rpcody.

The Speedy pro is a watch that photographs very very we'll. on the wrist it's very plain jane. Very easy to read and use the chronograph.

The 9300 has a lot of wrist presence but a lot of it is due to its thick case.

The better deal is the Pro. For the price of the 9300 I would at least try on the 38 or 42 mm Zenith El Primero, both wear much more comfortably than the 9300. And have more wrist presence than the Pro

I like the looks of the new version but the Speedy Moon is about as classic as you can get. 42mm is the perfect size for me. I'd take the Pro over the 9300 every day of the week.

I've owned both as well...although I absolutely loved the 9300 on straps I couldn't tolerate the size/weight when worn on the bracelet...

Loved my Speedy but had to let it go in less than a year. No matter how many half links I tried I could never adjust the bracelet. Pity.

I second that. Nothing like the Pro. Here's mine on 6.5 inch wrist

I am usually not one to say this, but here I think that you can seriously consider having both. They are very different, and each is compelling in its own way. If the weight is a concern, consider the Ti or DSOTM (or Lunar Dust, when available).

I tried on the Speedy Pro, felt no attachment to it. It's like you need to be in love with the NASA history to truly appreciate it. Manual wind would drive me nuts but others say the routine of it makes their day. Lastly, no date is a tough sell for me.

I tried the SS 9300 and it didn't look and feel quite right on my wrist either. I do like the automatic movement and prefer the cleaner two register dial.

I then tried the Ti9300 and DSOTM. Fell in love with the DSOTM and added it as the 'Speedy' and definitive 'black watch' for my collection:

Good luck on your decision!

I'll take a Speedy Pro over the 9300 any day and a Lemania chrono movement, over any Omega "in-house" movement.

There is a good reason why the Speedy Pro is the most iconic chrono in history.

I would have gone with the 9300 if it had the same dimensions as the classic speedmaster pro. It was just too big for my taste, and I have an 8" wrist.

I agree with this completely. I really want to like the 9300 because of the date, but the size and thickness is too much. Each time I see it in a wrist shot, it's too large for the person wearing it - IMHO - no offense meant. I don't like a watch that the lugs span my entire wrist height.

I did see my post from a year ago and did end up getting and liking the 9300. Wrist shots exaggerate the size (especially from an iPhone) and the lugs on the 9300s are relatively short are curved. And on a bracelet the end of the case and start of the bracelet isn't obvious. It's still a very thick watch, but you have to see how it fits on your wrist before passing final judgement.

+1 for the classic moonwatch. It is the only iconic watch Omega makes. The proportions are perfect for most wrists whereas you need to be Arnold Schwarzenegger wear the 9300.

I also really like how the classic moonwatch hasn't been messed with in its 40+ year history. With the 9300 there's a new flavour every month and that cheapens the watch in my opinion.

This still seems to be a very present discussion. I currently own the one in the pic below, but have plans to get the Pro in a short while to carry out a Mitsukoshi mod. The 9300 is a hefty piece, though, no doubt about it.
