Fake or Not !

Hello

I was wondering IF there are some guide lines when It come to identifying fake or authentic AP's.
Some fake AP's are made almost identical and only a professional can identify.

Please share your knowledge and experiences.

thanks

Models with additional complications are much easier to spot IMO. A quick example would be an Offshore, fakes often have incorrect register spacing, configuration, cutouts, and etc due to the generic movement used, as well as other factors. The location of the date window, its depth, and size is also a tell.

Depends....

If the watch is in your hand, it's very easy...just turn it over and look at the movement (for a 15400)

If your question is in regards to buying it from an online seller, then it's a bit harder, but there are still certain tells (finishing on case/bracelet, hex screw size, etc) especially if they post an actual picture of the watch.

The worry can be mitigated by simply purchasing from the boutique, AD, or trusted seller here on TRF

If you are worried about someone selling you a fake, you should find a new seller.

There have been lots of jumbos for sale on TRF recently. Go to one of the guys that does lots of volume and has great references and call it a day.

Hard to spot fakes? On the contrary even if it's well done the movement will always be impossible to copy to perfection, not by a mile...

Buy only if you feel confidence, saving a few bucks is not worth compared to losing 10-20k
