Tour de Georgia-final stage in Atlanta

Yesterday a friend and I went to Atlanta to shoot the final stage of the Tour de Georgia. The race started in a light rain, but it did not continue. We were able to shoot from a couple of different places on the course.... a 6.27 mile course. They raced for ten laps. Here are some shots, one on the last lap and then after the race finished. There were racers from 26 countries. Needless to say, we had great fun. Cheers, Bill P.

Great pictures. Love the city for everything it has (except the traffic). BTW, I'm writing this from Atlanta on a business trip.

The bicycling racing season is off and running. I hope the TDF is going to be great this year and not mired in doping scandals. I am also hopeful that the new American team can race in it and put up a showing. It could be an exciting year.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the kind words on the photos.... yep, ATL is a great city, but the traffic is just terrible! Hope you enjoy your time while there.

Terry, like you, I sure hope the TDF has a good year free from scandals. There were some fantastic teams here in GA for the Tour de Georgia.

Sure would be great if ROLEX sponsored a cycling team.
I guess they "sink" enough into the yacht racing and horse shows.
Team Deep Sea.
Imagine the gearing they could derive!

I'm guessing from the photographs the 'highroad' team did pretty well.
The guy in the blue/white highroad jersey won the final stage and the guy on the podium in the yellow/white highroad jersey won the Tour de Georgia
Seems like a quality field with a few top teams from Europe.
Thanks for sharing those photos.

Steve, Team High Road won Stage 7 and the overall race. Winner of the 2008 Tour de Georgia was Kanstantin Sivtsov of Belarus, Team High Road. Second place went to Trent Lowe of Australia, Team Slipstream Chipotle. Third place went to Levi Leipeimer of the USA, Team Astana.

Glad you liked the photos... it was a great race! Cheers, Bill P.

Levi looks ready to kick some major this year. it is such a shame that the dream team got split up. It will be an interesting season with some of the greats split up and competing against each other this year. Could be major excitement.

Get ready for the Aussies to clean up in Europe especially the Tour de France:
Cadel Evans #1 favorite for overall yellow jersey
Robbie McEwan #1 for the sprint green jersey
The next few months should be interesting viewing.
I'm definitely not biased

Terry please remind me to delete that emoticon, it is quite disrespectful especially when it is used against someone telling the truth

Very Funny Steve. I truly was rolling on the floor after reading this. Seriously, I have followed Cadel Evans and Robbie McEwan for years and think they are great racers. I'll enjoy bantering with you during the tour this year. It truly should be an exciting race. Especially since we Americans graciously retired so that the second best people and teams could have a shot at it.

Seems like my words were prophetic, as last night McEwan got his first victory of the season in Europe at the Tour de Romandie

McEwan #1
First USA rider across the line #104

Steve:

I concede Oh Great One. Thou hast surely proven that the Aussies have rode most admirably in this race.

The season is yet young and it ain't over till the fat lady sings.

Ready to admit defeat (in this instance )
