The emergency squad would have even found it impossible to make out which body parts belonged to who after that crash!!!

JJ, nobody crashed but I definitely empathize with the pilots landing into Wellington on windy days like these.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RdxU...eature=related

Peter,
What a fantastic clip of some great x-wind landings. I can still remember years ago doing my very first solo circuit in a Cessna 150 Aerobat. On the down wind leg, I had a look at the aerodrome wind sock and thought SH#@T this does not look good. Only had minimal training at that time in x-winds. Later on though, I really excelled at 'under the hood' training. That was an absolute blast. Everything the instructor tried did not work, I just trusted my instruments everytime. The x-wind picked up even further just as I turned onto final. My backside was twitching like you would not believe on short final. I managed a great landing and I was congratulated by the Club members that were watching. In my opinion, my first solo circuit and landing was far better than sex. What a buzz that was. Michael |

Have a look at this one... It's an unauthorised flyby and the captain got fired for this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1ijLu2HzvI and this one is plain exciting. I love plane spotting at old Kai Tak airport. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dd9NM9vsGD8 |

I have been flying for over 20 years so some of its sexiness has worn off but like you I have vivid memories of some of my first x-wind landings and flight school in general...frankly I'm still amazed I made it through those first few years, I felt as though I was invincible and nothing could ever happen to me. By sheer luck nothing did back then, but I sure did do a lot of asinine things while flying. |
