Day Date II Prices Hit Bottom Yet?
What do you think the "bottom" price of the Day Date II will be? By that I mean, the price in which it will not go any lower, but eventually start going up from, given enough time. For example, I think the bottom price for the Day Date 18038 was about $6000 about 10yrs ago and eversince then, it's been creeping up. Currently, a used Day Date II goes for around $26-27k. I'm guessing around $20k to $23k?

I don't think that it will ever go lower than it is now. If you are talking new in box. Used, after many many years yes I could see the price going down a bit from what they are now based on condition and age.

lol.
to the OP. I see them going up. All I hear is "these are discontinued, you won't be able to get it soon". I would hop all over another one, but I super interested in the 40.

Ya but the reason the original day/date presidents, dropped so low had far more to do with the price of gold than the watch market bottoming out. The price of gold 10 years ago today was less than 500.00 per ounce. Anytime a piece of jewelry is made from a precious metal that makes up a significant portion of the original value, its price per ounce in it's smelted form will largely guide the value of the top and bottom. I think you are looking at the bottom of the market ( or very close to it) for any day/date you would consider wearing as your watch. That's my un-expert opinion if that's even a word.

Not sure about the 18038 being had for that little, but one can absolutely buy one very low, as the band is mostly likely always stretched out beyond belief... But send it to a certain someone in Hong King, and presto, a brand new day date

Has Rolex announced the MSRP of the DD40 yet? I think PM pieces have always been able to be had new for a pretty fair discount.
If the DD40 takes a big increase over the old DD2 then I would imagine that the DD2 will hold pretty well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If I were a seller I would not lower prices until at least the DD40s had been out for a little while. Basel is only for the die hards, 90% of buyers won't even know about the new watch. It's the same with Patek, altho they recently dropped prices 10% many used models like the Nautilus have not been lowered and used prices are still higher than the new retail.

I was talking about used prices. I think the bottomed out price of the 18038 was a little over $6000, which was about 10 yrs ago; I know this because I sold mine at that time to get a PAM 88.
So do you the think the bottomed out price of a used DD II will be about 20k or higher? |

Can't see prices going down and at the same time I do not seem them flying off the shelves. I would imagine they will hold solid.

I'd be surprised if it didn't track with the DD40.
