service interval recommendation

any recommendation for intervals between full service ?? i bought a 1986 datejust in 1996 and i knew nothing about service history on it . the mainspring snapped in about 2001 and i had it repaired and a sapphire crystal conversion and required bezel for the conversion done at that time it was not a full service from rolex but a basic repair/upgrade from a local watchmaker and was obviously pressure tested and confirmed to be keeping time within COSC spec ! it is now 2015 and i have not had any other work done on that watch since 2001 , it still keeps great time and looks as it did then . i have no intention of sending it for any kind of service unless i see a big difference in accuracy or some other obvious flaw . i more recently purchased a 1991 16610 sub date and am going to use the same logic and only concern my self with service if i notice a change in operation of the watch . is this a common practice or do most of you have a set schedule or routine you go by !

I regularly check my watches on a timegrapher to determine if it needs a service. Your DJ will have to go to an independent if ever serviced as RSC won't touch a modified Rolex.

good info , thanx . i do have the original acrylic crystal and correct bezel for the DJ i could send it with but i prefer the thought of an independent anyway to be able to retain the finish on the watch as it was fully polished many years ago and contrary to popular opinion i really like it that way! i'll have to look into a timegrapher

No need to buy one. Just take your watch in for a checkup once a year or if you have concerns.
