Hello from Perth
Hi Everyone,
I have a major birthday coming up in the next 12 months and would love to make a DJ SS (Black Dial) my first Rolex! What can I expect to pay for one here in Perth, or indeed anywhere in Australia? I understand that the price at an AD would be somewhere around 5-6k AU? What's the story with grey dealers? How much cheaper are they? Also, how prolific are they here? Thanks, Tom P.S. Does everyone approve of my choice? I much prefer 'simple' looking watches. I'm currently wearing a TAG Heuer Carrera Automatic and while it's no Rolex, I do love the clean and simple look of it. :) |

Hi Tom, welcome to TRF!
Are you referring to a SS DJ like this one? In my opinion the best DJs are the versions with Oyster bracelets. In reference to price, I personally would only buy from an AD just because it gives you the new Rolex two year warranty and peace of mind. I also prefer to own a watch no one else has used. If you went to a grey dealer you wouldn't find much difference in terms of price - just that the warranty is void buying from a non authorised Rolex distributor. I believe your choice is an excellent choice, I would certainly buy the model that I have guessed is the one your after. Best of luck - keep us up to date with your pending choice. |

Welcome Tom, well the authorised dealers are the best ones to ask about retail price.
As you have not bought a Rolex before and if you do not have a lot of experience buying over the internet, then you may well find it more satisfying to buy from an authorised dealer (AD). Your tastes may well change in a very short time so it is important that you consider all the models carefully before making your choice. There is a lot of information and photos of the various models on this forum for you to educate your tastes and preferences. I'm not saying there is anything at all wrong with a DateJust, but if you are going to buy a watch it pays to consider what is around very carefully. For instance the relatively new GMTIIC is an all round watch and it has some great features which would make it worthy of consideration.

Hi Tom, Hope you enjoy your stay. IMHO I would go the A.D way for your first ROLEX. Piece of mind. Anyway, don't forget to post pics of your birthday present.
Rob.

Welcome to TRF, Tom.
Definitely go to an Authorised Dealer for your first one. Sounds like exciting times ahead.

Hi Tom,
I'm also a newbie in this forum and the people here are really great! Just like you, I'm also in the market for a new rolex and the DJ is one on my shortlist. Good luck on your hunt as well. |

Hi Tom:
Quite the birthday present you have in mind for yourself. There is nothing so exciting as going to an authorized dealer and trying on watches to see which one smiles at you and vice versa. That is half the fun of buying the watch. The other half is smiling at it daily when it is on your wrist. Looking forward to see what you decide. Enjoy your stay and welcome to TRF. Terry Newton
