Help identifying this vintage Rolex.
Hi everyone. My colleague at work has this awesome vintage piece that his grandfather gave him. He doesn't know much about it. He thinks it's gold plated? But I don't think that Rolex would do that.
If you could help me learn more about the model, year it was produced (approximately...he thinks it's circa 1950) and anything else about the piece. Thanks a lot. |

"1500" between the lugs at the top of the watch ( the curved surface in between the shoulders ) ? That would be the model reference.
If you can read the seven digit number in the same place at the other end, that will help us date it, too. I expect it to be later than 1950s. Haywood M

H&M is spot on. Its probably from the 70's. Check the back, if its stainless then its what rolex calls gold shell. Here is mine.
Edit. Mine is 1550 as Greg said. 👍 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'm guessing a 1550 from the early 1970's judging by the looks of it, it would be a gold capped(thicker than plating, actually coated in gold.) is the caseback made of SS? are there any hallmarks on the back of the lugs? if the caseback is SS, it's a 1550, if it's got no hallmarks it's a 1550. post the SN in the 999xxxx format and we can help you date it. looks to be in great shape, the 1560 movement it has is a real workhorse as well.
