advanced search options

There is a wealth of knowledge available in older forum posts, but sometimes finding it can be a bit tricky.

Specifically, when looking for something, a bit more control over search terms would be very helpful. Currently if I choose to search for 2 words, all posts with either word will show up. There isn't a "must contain all words" or "phrasing' search that I'm aware of.

As an example, if I want to search classifieds for a 116333 with a black dial and roman indicators, and use the search < 116333 black roman > I'll get a lot of results of now what I was looking for.

Would the moderators be open to expanding the capabilities of advanced search?

You need to do an 'advanced search'.
Use operators such as " " or +
For example 116333+black+roman will give you only those results with all three words present.
That will refine your search.

This doesn't appear to be working as expected. Doing the search for 116333+black+roman is returning results for any of the words, and doesn't require them all.

I've tested with both IE11 and Firefox.
Specific search:
116333+black+roman
Search titles only, not entire posts
Search in classified, rolex forum

Is this possibly a bug in how things are implemented?

I'm happy to pass along any details I can, or offer any other assistance if there is something I can do to help. I would really like to be able to filter down results.

Well I just got 117 hits using 116333+black+roman most were in the for-sale forum but many others in the Rolex watch forum.

The fact is the + symbol does work.

What I can't guarantee is someone doing what would appear to be a straightforward search wrongly.

There is no bugs, no excuses, and it is totally irrelevant what browser you choose to use.

Plus - you can constrain search to just classifieds and then save it.

It works fine as others said - see my results:

Ummm... wow ---

If I touched a nerve and offended somehow, I really didn't mean to. I guess I'm just too stupid to be able to ask a reasonable question.

I've tried multiple variations. No matter what combination I search for, I receive 505 results. The combinations of search phrases do change which 505 results I see, but always 505.

Since I'm apparently too dumb to be able to perform a simple search, I am happy to post screen shots.

Only 501 results on this one... but should be enough to give an idea.

Not sure what you're doing Mat, but I get 77 hits when searching entire posts only, 53 when searching titles only, and 106 when searching all open sub-forums?!??

That is using, 116333+black+roman, in the search option, advanced search, FS section (Rolex only)!!

Now no-one said you were 'To bumb', so no need for the hard done by attitude....

I've had a long couple of days, so I'll come back and re-read this tomorrow, but yes - I do interpret LOL-X comments to mean exactly that.

I want to apologize to anyone reading this thread, and specifically to the poster that I took offense at. I had been awake in excess of 24 hours at the time, and surely overreacted to the thread. I don't offer that as an excuse, just hopefully a bit of insight when I ask for forgiveness, and to let bygones by bygones. I do sincerely apologize for my reactions.

To the mods: if there is a way to clean up this thread, or if necessary make it go away entirely so that others don't need to bother reading my petty snipe remarks, that would very much be appreciated. Overall I have found TRF to be a fun, friendly place to talk about a subject that is very exciting to me, and I don't want to sully that experience for myself or others.
