Patek 5711/5712 blue dial

I have read a lot about these particular models, however have not seen one (yet) in the flesh.A question for those that own these models, is the blue dial really that captivating? from pictures that I have seen, the blue hue does seem to vary, depending on the lighting.

Is it really that special?

What Is the general consensus on the White dial 5711?

Any thoughts?

Yes. It is that special. Had a 15202, to me - not nearly as dynamic as the 5711/1a. The white 5711 is crisp and vanilla and beautiful from pics. Haven't seen in person.

Yes, I think it's that special and dynamic, too.

I have the blue and it is indeed mesmerizing. The white dial was a very very close second. I saw a gentlemen on the plane yesterday with a white 5711. Holy, it was amazing. Can't go wrong with either, but I give a slight edge to the blue.

It needs pretty good lighting otherwise it becomes too greyish and flat. The 5711P and 5980 TT have the really vibrant blue dials.

I have the 5712 and whenever it's in strong lighting it always puts a smile on my face, of course the most awesome blue dials are the 5711P, good luck getting one, and the TT 5980, easier to get if the TT doesn't put you off, but even a blue 5711/5712/5980 are really cool, if I get a second Naut it will be a 5711 blue dial, but I'm waiting to see what they have in store for us for the 40th, they could do a 5711 without second hand but with a blue dial like the TT 5980, in any case I'm expecting something special, hope I won't be disappointed…

Neil, that's what IMO is awesome, it goes from grey to blue, and other colors, really chameleon dials

I am a bit biased as I own the white dial 5711. To me, the silvery/ivory lights it emanates are just unique in modern watchmaking. Love it! And I am not particularly a white dial guy in general, but in this case… Anyway, I also love the blue dial, though I don't own one. I just believe the white version is slightly sportier given the black markers and hands, and I also prefer the date window on the same color as the dial. No wrong option for either 5711 blue or white, imho.

I've handled the white dial and own the grey/blue. Both are very nice and it really depends on personal preference.

The "blue" dial on the 5711 is really grey/blue dial and is the original and considered more often than the white. The colour gradations are more visible than the white dial and changes from slate/metallic grey to navy blue.

The white is a metallic silvery white but with more subtle colour changes compared to the grey/blue. As others have said, the white gives off a more sporty vibe.

Most photos don't do the 5711/5712 justice

I saw and tried on the 5712/1a and the blue dial was stunning. I thought about buying that one too. I refrained thankfully!

Is it captivating? You tell me..

Dial color is world class however, I prefer a slightly thicker case but that is just me!

IMO, the 5711/5712 has the best blue dial. Even better than APs' blue dial watches.

I went white for a few reasons. I like the stark contrast. I like the matching date window. I like to be different. Seems less dressy to me.

Well all the guys who owned both AP and PP blue dials seem to say that the Patek dials are much better, haven't had an AP before, love the Jumbo in pics alone, even considered one a year ago, but when I see a Jumbo and a 5711 next to each other i like the Patek much more than the AP, in my dreams I have 5 watches, my actual 5712, a blue dial 5711 and 3 others

The blue color of my 5980 happens to be my favorite color and hue. Like a dark blue sapphire. It dates back to when I was a kid in the 70's and for whatever reason fell in love with a color of ink by Sheaffer "Skrip" called Blue-Black. Funny how you remember random moments and things...
Anyway, while I love the color and its ability to change in different lights, I stop short of calling it mesmerizing. But to each their own...
As for the white dial, I didn't like it in pictures until I saw it in person. Then I knew I didn't like it. If only I hadn't read descriptions of it's resemblance to a garage door or shutters, I might like it more.
But that's just my opinion, and you know what they say about those!
One more thought: I originally wanted a black dial 5980 because I wanted the red chrono hand and the date window with white on black. I "settled" for the blue dial because my trade made sense to both parties. Now having owned the blue dial I can say I would not trade it for the same with a black dial. Still love the red chrono hand though...

In fact the 5980, 5712 and 5711 blue is exactly the same, in the Patek website they look different, but it's exactly the same, the ones which are different are the 5980TT and the 5711P

Thanks for the wrist shots!!

My smallest watch is a Daytona which sometimes bugs me however happy with my Subs (Daytona wears small etc). Will have to try a Nautilus on my 7.2" wrist when I get to London for sure!

a Nautilus will wear much smaller than your Daytona, except maybe for the 5980 and 5990

Dave your blue dial with the 5711P blue dial is, IMO, the 2 most stunning blue dials that exist, I completely get why you got the TT5980 when you already had the 1R, may seem redundant to some but not to me, completely different watches and both stunning in their own way
