Stopping the watch??

Assuming that I'm not going to wear my GMT master for a while, is it acceptable to pull the crown to stop it when wound, or should I just let it run down.

Just let it stop but if not worn for a month or more, just give it a small wind every so often when stored just to start the movement.

When you pull the crown to stop the watch you are effectively applying a brake to the works. Everything in the gear train is still under tension and no machine likes to be held that way for long periods..

as said, let it run down and rest.

I'm with the experts...let it run down.

Although I didn't know what Larry posted above...learn something every day.

Letting it run down seems to be the sensible choice here.

Leave it stop on its own, I give whatever I'm not wearing for a while a full wind twice a month and store it in a different position until the next winding. Full wind then store crown down until the next winding then store crown up. This probably doesn't do anything but I feel that it keeps the oils in different positions at rest.

Thanks chaps for all your wise words, as Larry said, "you learn something every day". I guess if you didn't the day would be wasted.
