BUY Daytona in UK vs. US ??
With the Dollar so strong vs. the Sterling and Euro, I was thinking of taking a trip to London and picking up a Daytona. In the US prices range (Brand New) around $ 14,000 for S/S and Gold . What about London? I think it is around 13,700 Euros ?
Is it worth the effort? I will be savings sales Taxes in US it is around 9.5% As a Tourist I believe I get a VAT refund of around 6%? Any input would be greatly apprieciated. |

London uses the GBP, not the EUR. I wouldn't say the USD is "so strong" against the GBP. It's 9% better than it was a year ago, but $1USD is still only worth $0.65GBP so that's not saying too much.
From what I understand, prices in the UK are pretty high. You'll also have to pay duty on it once you bring it back into the US (5% I think). You'd have to find one for $9,185GBP in order to break even, anything less than that and you'll save, anything more and you'll lose out. |

You still have to pay the import duty into the U.S. Just buy here from our trusted sellers and be done with it. Save waaay more and no paperwork.
Aaaaaaaand the UK uses the Pound, not the Euro.

If you manage to find one in an AD, only possibly a cancelled order as i had called every AD in London 2 weeks ago, one AD laughed down the phone and one quoted a 14 year waiting list lol.
But if you do, retail is £7950 and you can claim 12-14% back so will end up around £7k. |

We use pounds so don't bother buying here.buy from a German dealer that's using euros and most are selling brand new Rolexes more than 1000 pounds cheaper than America and England.

Daytona
Any good dealers you know of in Germany? (I could google some authorized Rolex dealers in Berlin or Munich).

If you can find one in Germany it's not a terrible idea to buy it there. You'll get 19% VAT back when you leave the EU, so even after claiming it when you get home, you still come out on top.
I wouldn't make a trip there just to get one though, that seems dumb. Only do it if you're going to be there anyway. |

I see the 116253 with a list price of 14550 Euro in Germany. After VAT refund, without further discount, you're looking at ~$14000 before any US import duties. Not sure if that's worth it.

Realistically, the 2-Tone Daytona is one that should be/is heavily discounted in the U.S. Negotiate with and AD or buy from a trusted seller here, can be had for much less than MSRP.

Prices in Heathrow airport can be more attractive than the USA because the prices are 20% lower than street price (no VAT charged inside airport if flying out of EU). The cost of business class flights from San Francisco to London would cancel out the benefit, not to mention the cost of London hotels! If you are passing through anyway it is worth a look.

I would think you could beat the 14k mark here on TRF pretty easily and not buy a plane ticket to Europe or sales tax...

Absolutely not - if cheapest price is your goal, the options in the US are way way better.

Great response all questions answered
- In my opinion it's only worth doing if buying a very expensive model.. gold/platinum models or other branded watches. There are always unforeseen factors you didn't include in the sums, FX spread etc. which trim the savings down |

To the OP: I think it is time for euro vacation :-)
I don't think it is worth it just to go there to buy a watch...if you are on vacation in europe then you might as well look around. There was a thread several weeks ago that somebody bought a Daytona SS for about $9000 from europe. Last month I checked at a local AD in SoCal for a Daytona SS it was about $11k w/o tax. :-) |
