Love Flora Springs. The Trilogy and Wild Boar Vineyard Cabernet are my favorites.

A little South African Cab, just ok... Had some great South African wines last year when we went on Safari. http://www.chiccollection.com/how-to...getting-drunk/

We were told the great South African wines don't make it out of the country.

Wine was better after it had time to breath. Mild for a Cabernet Sauvignon not as bold as I prefer, on the lighter side. It has a little bite on the finish but had all the characteristics of a good Cab.

That's a great $20 Pinot. Cambria is another favorite Pinot of ours in that price range.

Trinitas 2012 Merlot - Rutherford

Came in our wine club delivery... Enjoyed with Filet Mignon with Green Beans tonight! Below is a picture of the entrance to the tasting room from our last trip to Napa.

Tasting Notes: Expressing notes of black cherry, all spice, cocoa powder and cedar on the nose, the palate confirms the mouthwatering and delicious flavor of big cherry, along with cocoa powder, and vanilla. The wine exhibits fine and delicate tannins, making it perfect for food pairings, or to enjoy by itself.

Vintage Notes: The 2012 vintage will be one to remember, and reminds Napa vintners of some of the very best vintages of the past few decades. A mild spring led to a good fruit set. Summer and fall brought warm temperatures, but no heat spikes. All of the fruit enjoyed a long, slow ripening, driving more intense fruit flavors and complexity. These wines will be full bodied but tannins are soft and supple. The colors are vibrant and rich for whites, and nearly inky black for reds. Overall a fantastic vintage.

Drank this one on Saturday night. Really typical Pinot from NZs premium wine area.
This is a publicity photo off the net. The one I drank was a 2012 and it was perfect.

Icon7 Mount Veeder Winery Cabernet Sauvingnon 2012

Anyone else have a contribution to the, Simply...The Wine Thread. I need some ideas too!

We LOVE about any bottle of wine from Mount Veeder Appellation of Napa Valley!

Our first time tasting this vineyard and wine. Enjoy it tremendously! Picked a few bottles at Vons today as they were on sale for $22 a bottle Vs. the regular price of $33...

A good bottle for a good price!

Winemaker's Notes

Deep ruby color. Deep cherry, plum, and vanilla intertwine with beautiful hints of anise and caramel. Additional notes of dark chocolate and cassis linger on the nose. Dark cherry and berry pie flavors combine with hints of rosemary and bay, perfectly complementing complex notes of allspice and vanilla. A smooth, seamlessly integrated palate with rich structure and mountain personality.

Critical Acclaim

TP/92

Tasting Panel - "Smooth and ripe with juicy berry fruit and intense notes of tobacco, mocha and spice; tangy and balanced with length and depth."

Old pic, but I recommend Au Bon Climat winery for anyone interested in Burgundian style Chardonnay or Pinot Noir produced domestically.

Icon14 Trinitas Cellars 2009 Proprietor's Reserve Chardonnay

This wine is a blend of Carneros vineyards. It is cold barrel fermented at 46-48°F which helps capture and enhance the tropical fruit aromas and aged in 100% new American oak for 11 months. Our distinctive Chardonnay completes 100% malolactic fermentation furthering its balance of ripeness, forward fruit and crisp acidity allowing the wine great aging potential.

A perfect marriage of high-quality fruit and American wood barrels: The toast on the barrels is prominent, giving a crème brûlée character to the nose. Underneath the toast, you get the intense tropical fruit – pear, peach, lemon zest and citrus. The rich mid- palate, explodes with cinnamon toast, cream and butterscotch – which is a contribution to the length of time spent in the oak barrels. In its own way, it’s as bold and expressive as a Cabernet. It’s got so much presence it can easily pass as an aperitif or carefully matched with food just as rich – perhaps pounded veal cutlets, an Italian risotto, or plump-cooked chicken breasts in a cream sauce.

Very enjoyable bottle! Has a smokey oak finish... Paring with pulled pork, green beans and cornbread!

Robert Hall Winery 2012 Meritage
92 Points - Wine Enthusiast, December 2014
92 Points - Meridith May, The Tasting Panel Magazine October 2014
89 Points - California State Fair Commercial Wine Competition 2014

2012 Meritage presents elegant aromas of black currant, cassis and ripe plum, complemented by intriguing earthy notes and cedar. The color is deep ruby red, dense, and reflects the intensity of this vintage, the vineyard, and the careful selection of our finest lots. On the palate the wine shows exceptional depth of flavor with firm but velvety tannins. The classic blend of four noble grapes produces a wine of finesse and character featuring our estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petite Verdot.

Contemplating a bike ride on the boardwalk and then a nice bottle later tonight...

I just started my education with wine so I don't pretend to be an expert but I've been enjoying Frog's Leap Rutherford estate Cabernet 2012. It's a bit pricey but the balance struck me after a few hours. What I like is it's not too much of anything, which seems rare nowadays.

If anyone has also had this can you recommend something similar? I tried the Stag's Leap Artemis but it wasn't as balanced for me as the Frogs Leap.

Try some of the red from Chappellet - very well balanced wines. White Oak would be another one to look for. Enjoy!

Another Saturday night, another great wine.
Saltram's Mamre Brook from the Barossa in South Australia.
A 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon that I have been ageing for a decade. It is a full-bodied Cab Sav that has aged beautifully and is rich and complex and goes on forever on the palate. Unfortunately only one bottle of this left.
