GMT time responses needed

I thought I would ask the group of GMT owners what times they have their watches set to. I'll get it started:

1. The watch is set to Central daylight time: because that's the time zone I live in.

2. The 24 hour hand is set to Asia Pacific time (Shanghai, China): because I do work with businesses located in this region.

3. Third time (using the bezel): I don't have it set at the moment since I'm not traveling.

Leave my 24 hand in Zulu time. Old aviator habit, but really don't have much need of it any longer.

GF currently in China which is 12 hours diiferent from EDT. Don't need a watch to keep that straight, just like I don't need it to remember CDT is an hour earlier than EDT.

I love the watch for those rare (sadly) trips to a number of places where it's actually necessary to have the this feature. Then I keep "home" time on the 24 hour hand and reflect local time on the hour/min hands.

My watch is set for local time in Los Angeles. My 24 hour hand stays at GMT. I use it to keep the time for London, where some of my staff work. Right now the bezel is rotated one hour to the left - the 1:00 position is at straight up - so that the 24-hour hand reflects current U.K. time now that they're on Daylight Savings Time. Once DST ends, the 24:00 position on the bezel is straight up getting me back to GMT.

My watch is set for local time, which would be Boulder, CO. My 24 hour hand is set to GMT.

Although, at the moment, I am not doing much traveling, my wife is. In recent months, she has gone as far East as Beijing and as far West as San Diego. I find it easy to go to the GMT site and adjust the bezel accordingly, so I know her local time.

Watch set to local time (US Central Standard Time) because I live in Houston. 24 hr hand set to GMT when bezel is at 24:00 position. Bezel advanced by two hours (GMT+2) to read the 24 hr hand at European Central Time (for Denmark). GMT+2 accounts for current daylight savings time, and will be set to GMT+1 when this ends.

My hour hand is CST. I set the 24 hour hand to GMT/BST because my family is in U.K. Ocassionally I have to work with China and then I set it to Chinese Standard Time.

Both set for home time and change the hour hand when traveling. I use the bezel when I want to determine another timezone when home and calling around the world. Like talking to JJ!

Seems to be the logical way for me. no need to calculate all over the world. I also use my bezel to time cooking and time-outs for my kids! LOL

I think it is better to adjust the GMT hand for DST. After all, DST lasts 6 months and all you have to readjust is just twice per year. Anyway cos the bezel of the GMT is bi-directional, you might accidentally knock it around clockwise or anti-clockwise.

Btw, how can the bezel of the GMT Master II be set for a 3rd timezone? One has to use some "imaginary" dial?

Well, Rolex does advertise this feature, so those touting the ability to assess a third TZ are on solid ground.

That said, I agree with you and find it to be bogus for only one reason-- if you instantly know the number of hours to rotate the dial, why wouldn't you just use that knowledge to make a quick mental calculation and be done with it? Do I really need to rotate the bezel three clicks to help add or subtract three hours? No.

My GMT is set to GMT...(minus one for Daylight Savings time) - I'm living in the UK. My bezel is rotated to track PST (minus one for Dayligh Savings time) because my family is still in Vancouver. I bought this watch specifically so I could do this and it's been very handy....like I told my wife, the watch has paid for itself man times over already.

Once the family come over to the UK with me this summer I will either continue to track PST because I have family back in Vancouver, or I will use the bezel to read 24 hour local time since my industry works on the 24 hour clock. We'll see.

My watch is set to Zulu(GMT) time since that is what we use here in Afghanistan. And because Afghan local time is + 4:30 of Zulu, I can't set my GMT to local time. Oh well, no big deal. I still use it everyday.

mine is set to cst and the gmt hand is set to gmt time with the 24 on the bezel insert at 12:00.

I have my GMT II watch set to PDT. The bezel is set to '15' and the 24 H hand is set to local Hong Kong time (+15 hours currently from PDT) as I am currently handling some accounts for my company which are based in Hong Kong. I am attaching a photo of my GMT II (16750) with this setting.

Right now,

1) GMT hand to GMT (obviously!) parents live in the UK, so just have to add an hour for their time when they call or i call them.

2) hour hand set to MST (DST complication)(alberta time home time zone)

3) hour bezel set to CET (DST complication) as i am currently in Laredo TX waiting to deliver

I was going to set my GMT on Zulu time but we don't have Zulus in Australia. I thought about setting it on Aboriginal time but that would have taken me 100000 years to wind back the date.
I settled for setting it on South Australian time and that is + 9.5 GMT which means I don't know the time anywhere else in the world except India and a few other countries I haven't heard of so stuff it, I'll wear my Milgauss instead.

I respectfully disagree.

Often I travel to Tokyo or Paris or other places outside the US. If I keep the 24 hour hand set to GMT, I can easily adjust the bezel to get the time in other locations. It's always easy to find the offset from GMT if I keep it set the way I do.

So what to you do with the other hands? Home or local?

Not a bad idea you have here. Keep 24 hand on GMT, rotate bezel to set it to home or another spot. I think main hands need to be set to local.
