7928 question...

Hi guys

Quick question- did all 7928 come with the large bubbled second hand? Or did some come with the more standard size?

Am just wondering because there seems to be such a huge mix out there and they are all in general patina'd to the same level as the dial that they can't all be service surely.

I am looking at this 7928 PCG with a standard second hand and would love some opinions

My understanding is some in the mid-60s 63-65 may have the smaller sweep. But most from 59-63 and 66-to 71 or so have the big bubble sweep. The Big Bubble is also replaced occasionally after having the larger lume are crack and break.

That is silver hands with gilt dial so a mid-late 1963?

Has it been relumed? How does it look under UV LED?

I have asked him for the year and if any parts have been replaced/relumed. I am hoping no as he is asking for what a decent amount for it. Case base reading 1960 I believe (although my knowledge of caseback is minimal at best)

It is from a reputable dealer that have bought from before so am hoping he will come back with good answers.

Is there anything else that jumps out as perhaps being redone?

Heres a few more pictures

The movemt should be silver nickel plate. Is this one brass or copper? For a pre 62 case I would expect an exclamation point dial and brass hands.

That could be a dirty rhodium movement with a pink rotor - colors in photo are bland - but is certainly an earlier 390 movement - maybe even earlier than 1960. A lot of these early 390s were fixed by whatever was available, especially the more adventurous ones.

Hands should be brassy/gilt/big bubble sweeep

Ok thanks guys.

Am assuming therefore best case scenario it has service hands, worse case it is a Franken.

Think it seems like should keep the search going annoyingly.

It's a very nice watch. Most are like this. The hands could be replaced but it could cost. $500 give or take. It's a beauty so if the price is right...

Would be around $9.3k, not that many on the market so finding it tough to judge if good price.

Kinda feel like should be spot on for that price... But thoughts would be appreciated

For 9K I want gilt hands, Rhodium movement, and Big Bubble sweep - they come along, so patience is needed. That is a nice piece but has some things that are off.

This could be a former Navy Diver piece that has been repaired to be like that during actual usage but would require provenance to support that kind of claim.

I don't know - I don't know enough about that era to be sure on the movement though my suspicion is that the movement (certainly the rotor) is wrong. What color is the base movement?. Lack of gilt hands with big bubble sweep hurts.
