Looking for opinions
TFR,
I am interested in a Rolex GMT Rootbeer. I own a Sub that I was planning to trade in and pay the difference for a nice newer GMT II. But recently I have seen a number of mid 80s GMTs that are within range of buying without the trade so I can have both. Of course that will cost me a few thousand more, but have 2 vs 1 in the end. What do you think, one newer GMT II or two watches newer Sub and 1980s GMT. I am more tipping towards the 1980s GMT and keeping my Sub as well. But I don't know enough about the older models to know if this is a good move or bad move and get with newer GMT and trade in current Sub. My current Sub is roughly a 2008 model, so not that old for a Rolex for sure. Any thoughts surely appreciated. Mark |

Which do you like better should be the question; personally I like the character of the older watches over most of the new ones. You need to make that decision and then follow the path which that leads you. I will say that if it has the root beer dial and insert that is a killer watch. 1980s watches have tritium dials and won't have a useful lume if that matters to you. Also not knowing the service history of the watch could be a drawback. Also does it have papers with it? There are a lot of questions which need to be answered on the decision, imho.

My root beer was one of the last made, I think they are an awesome watch, I would look for a nice root beer and keep your sub, they are different watches and most of the root beers have a jubilee bracelet, if you can manage to get a 1675 nipple dial root beer for a good price it will never lose money....... Even on a leather strap they are an awesome piece.
