Rolex service... ADs or Rolex RS

I was at Rolex HO in Toronto today and truthfully found experience remarkable. The entire building is devoted to Rolex as well on one of the floors they look after repairs and maintenance to any watches that come in. I have to tell you I was very much impressed not only with the customer service but how they really care and stand behind the product they sell. Having had watches serviced at ADs before I found them to be more professional and the explanation of why and what much better. I find when doing repairing or complete overhauls some ADs have a good to learn especially when dealing with watchmakers who really aren't salespeople. I find in the past whenever dealing with a watchmaker they try hard to sell you a service and really don't deliver completely one example of this was.. I brought in another watch of mine for a full service about 3 weeks ago, I will admit there were some issues with the watch that the watchmaker haven't discovered yet. We had discussed that the crown and tube were to be replaced and I was quoted based on the cost of that. At the end he decided it didn't require a new tube and crown, there was another problem with it however the tube was not fully screwed to the case which he fixed and that's great however I don't like paying for parts that were never given to me.

In fairness I know there's tons of little parts in watches and to account for each one of them would probably be crazy. Still paying for stuff you don't get it doesn't make sense to me it would be nice to get a complete rundown of all parts that were used in your watch and the cost to make sense of it all. I think Rolex does a much better job at this then ADs or for that matter most repair and service shops.

One thing I always wondered and maybe someone out there has the answer what is the markup on watch parts in particular Rolex parts if you pay say 800$ for a service how is this broken down. I really look forward to hearing back on this topic not so much for the price itself but just to know where the money we spend on these things really goes. I'm always for doing my own repairs not sure how good the repair would turn out however haha!!!

When you have a car serviced, do you want the old spark plugs and air filter? Sometimes things are spent and of no further use. They go in the bin. Most of the cost if service is labor.

They ezspecialize in the repair of Holex and Patek Philipe Watches. If you put your 5000 Holex in a safe, 2-3 years from now you will keep having your 5000 dollarz.

You have to have certified mechanics that know what they're doing. If you have an expensive car, youre not just gonna take it to any mechanic that doesnt know what hes doing.

top service people

That's what I mean where are the best do they work for Rolex directly or at authorized dealers or for that matter at small independent watchmaker shops who however cannot get parts from Rolex or is that a myth

I actually didnt know that Rolex AD's serviced their own watches. My AD always sends it to the RSC. So I dont really have any options. The choice is made for me.

Not all Rolex ADs service Rolex. Some ADs send Rolex for service to RSC. Some ADs have Rolex-trained, in-house watchmakers. Then there are Rolex-trained independent watchmakers with Rolex parts account.
