Rolex should increase the options(?)

There is another thread that I touched on this subject, but I think it is kind of interesting and was wondering what your thoughts were. What if you could "customize" your Rolex; like ordering a new car with the speciic features you wanted. Hear me out on this:

There are different features on other Rolex models that I really like. For example, on the older DJs, they had the roulette(?) date wheel, where one day was red then the next was black. On the YM, I like the red-colored second hand, I think it stands out against the light colored dial and looks great. On the GMTs, there are different color 2nd time zone hands depending on how old your model is; Red, Green or blue. My EXP II has an orange hand, but the older ones are red.

What if you could order, whatever you wanted from an AD? Say I wanted a Red date wheel, red second hand and Blue GMT hand? Not saying that is specifically what I would order, but I think it would be great to at least have those options available, with official Rolex parts and not voiding the warranty.

I realize this is probably never going to happen, but, would you like to see it?

Nah. That would be a disaster for the collector market and diminish the brand.

that would be a nice option to have in you are buying new and I would think if you could do that they would charge a nice premium to have it custom made and would probably take a while to receive it.

I am all for customizing!!!

Didn't the Sultan of Oman already do this? I think if you throw enough money at Rolex they will build anything you want.

Manufacturers often have custom shops, but the prices go exponential once you have one-off designs. I have some custom shop recreational items from a major manufacturer of things not to be mentioned here, and they are far more expensive than the normal retail line.

The 2 things I'd like to be able to choose are....

1) cyclops or no cyclops

2) PCL or brushed bracelet

Despite conventional wisdom, people prefer limited choices to a lot of choices. I would hate for Rolex to change their product portfolio model.

I would order my Rolex with Bluetooth, and a beverage holder would be useful.

As the saying goes: if it ain't broke, why fix it...although variety is the spice of life, adding many more possible options would, imo, dilute the continuity, integrity, and consistency of the brand. I mean, I like going to buffets every now and then, but I know it's not a healthy thing to do

Why not? Porsche does it. As long as you are willing to pay for and wait for it, you can have pretty much anything you want.

In the spirit of the original question, I would like to be able to specify a yellow gold Sub with a no-date movement and face.

The DJ range does have quite a number of dial, bezel, metal, strap/bracelet options to be fair.

It's an interesting proposition, when put into the perspective of vehicle models and all the different options available. Red, white, leather, brown interior?? etc.?

However, I am watch purist and like to keep it simple. In other words, I like to have the style/look of watches that Rolex decides that I have, and limited to certain degrees. That's why a 116520 SS Daytona will look like any other 116520, except for maybe either black or white dial.

When you add too many variants, it's no longer a 116520. That's why Rolex decided on the using 116523 for the TT look, although there are various dials available. But adding options like cyclops, dates, green ceramic bezel, etc. to your 115260 and you no longer have a 116520 but a 116520XXEVEOVERE or whatever.

This would be an easy thing to do and would be two great options to choose from, I might add being able to choose a jubilee option also.

I'm pretty happy with the models as they are now, only option I would really like is the ability to pop a ceramic bezel onto the SS and maybe a panda dial too.

It would be nice to have the option of ordering a GMT or Submariner with a SJ bracelet.

I would imagine prices for this kind of production would skyrocket.

Please stick with limited options, maybe change them every few years for variety, otherwise you will end up with DJ buyer's remorse wishing you had bought another option as soon as you get home. The EXP I has the perfect range of options.

Those three options are easily done and don't interfere with the innards of the watch such as the date wheel or seconds hand. I'd like to see it but I'm not holding my breath.

I would not.

Customizing ie., improving the original design and telling Rolex that it can be done better devalues the brand.
