...to get the second hand moving? Sometimes, I notice I have to give it about 20 winds before the second hand begins moving? Is that normal?

All mine usually are 15-20 except the 116619. She likes for me to give her small shuggle

Could depend on what your movement is. Mine are all the same GMT's/Submmariners

My Explorer 2 was slow to respond, I bought it new and only had it for 2 weeks. My new TT GMT is quick to wake up should the need arise, however I am having trouble keeping her off my wrist

I have the newer Explorer 2... I've heard it can take 20 winds to get rolling... My other automatics take fewer, but if it's normal, I'm cool with it.

Interesting question. I think on my pre-ceramic Sub, it wakes up pretty quickly. On my ceramic Sub, it also takes some time before it starts moving. Curious what other people's experience has been.

I wear my watches in rotation so I have to wind them quite often.
When I wind a watch I'll give it around 40 turns to be fully wind.

But to give you the answer you want to hear, my watches start around 15 turns.

Mine needed to be started yesterday, I gave it a couple of winds, nothing happened. I got worried and then shook it and the second hand started up. Then I fully wound it.

Quite possible even after a full wind some might need a gentle swirl as well to get them started its mechanical and not electronic.And a wind is one full 360 degrees clockwise only, around 40 should fully wind to full power reserve, watches only wind on the forward wind by the crown.

I usually wear my coke GMT and for the first 9 years I honestly don't ever remember winding it. It never left my wrist except for the time it went into service for a cracked crystal after 9 years of sleeping with it, showers et..

Now it's in rotation with 5 others and although it's a beater I'll never get rid of it and it's been an amazing watch for 14 years
