If you can both afford one, then has to be new for the missus. Same for your mother and sister. Brother can have a used one you've also been wearing for a week first.

There are many great deals out there for smaller size watches such as air kings. I have looked at new style oyster perpetuals for as little as $2900 and no hole air kings for under $2500. I also don't think our wives or girlfriends care as much as we do about " box and papers". IMO, I would buy a airking for $2500, invest in a diamond bezel ($1000) and for $3500 you have an unbelievable Rolex for her and a great "bang for the buck"! Wink wink

I prefer NIB, my wife prefers a good deal and has no problem getting a used watch in good condition if its the one she wants and its a great price all the better for her, me not so much!

Both watches I bought for my wife were all pre owned although you would never know it. They came with boxes & papers & looked brand new.

I'm not even sure my wife knows what the box and papers mean. That being said I just got her a 6 month old 178341 31mm DJ.
I was also hunting here and looking at some of the 35mm YM for the wife. Turned out we tried one on and her wrist was too small for the 35mm. Looked big beyond fashionable. 31mm was a perfect fit. I think the 35mm is great modern looking watch for a lady and some good buys out there. |

Ideally should at least have a box when presented as a gift.

I posted earlier I agree it should have original box but as long as it is in excellent condition no issues, my wife went to great lengths to pick the model she liked at the time, since then she has gone to my Daytona, but this was a nice gift, and bought from a trusted seller here, what not to like.

Thanks for the input all.
We were in Carmel, California earlier and went to an AD. Tried on a few watches for her and a lady DJ 31 TT everose with black mop is what pops for her. Don't think I can go less than bnib. I have until mid February to pick one up for her as a push present. I'll see if TRFs can get a hold of one, otherwise we'll go the AD route. We find out gender of our incoming in a few weeks, so if it's a girl, we'll likely do a birth watch for February. If it's a boy he'll have a few watches to choose from one day, so not gonna do the birth watch route. I'm done with watches for myself for now. :-) Sent from my XT1096 using Tapatalk |

My wife would have preferred a used piece but I ended up getting a great deal on a BNIB DJ from my preferred AD.
