Nomos

I've always had the Nomos bug, but lately I've been wanting something a little low key to wear instead of my Rolex. A friend of mine recently got the Orion and I must say it exceeded any expectations I had for Nomos due to the beauty and quality of the watch. I wanted to get y'alls opinion on the brand itself and if any current owners have a Nomos, I would love to hear your input before I buy.

The current models that have caught my eye are the basic manual no date club and the tangente. Also, since the price is so low, would the "experience" of buying it new outweigh the cost of buying used?

As far as I know it takes a huge hit on resale, so at least if you want new get from grey dealer at good price

I think they have fantastic watches (with in-house movement), for a fantastic price. I have never read anything bad about the brand.

The Ahoi with blue dial and perlon strap looks good to me.

Loved the look of the Ahoi, sits very proud on the wrist, wish the lugs were a bit more streamlined and lower on the case like many of their other models. I hope they come out with more water proof watches.

I am a big fan of Nomos, and happy owner of Orion 33 White.
I also had an opportunity to deal directly with the company, and I was treated very, very well.
I hope you will decide to add Nomos to your collection - it will make you smile :-)
Best of luck

Marcela, did you buy your Nomos directly through them? If you don't mind me asking, can you please elaborate on your experience?

Thank you very much for your interest :-)
I called Turneau in NYC, one of the Nomos retailers, and inquired about Orion White 33.
They did not have it in stock, and I was told that I would have to wait 4-5 weeks for the watch to arrive...
Then I called Nomos directly (BTW - it was 7pm local time), and spoke to gentleman by the name of Florian. We had very pleasant and productive conversation, during which he recommended that I ordered the watch online from their E-boutique. He also promised to keep an eye on my order. He explained that if I bought the watch directly from them (as in - the factory), I would have had to go through the inconvenience of the bank wire transfer. (Not end of the world, but if avoidable - why go through it?). He asked me to contact him directly, should there be any issue whatsoever with the delivery.
I received the watch in 3 business days without any problems...
Here it is with the original strap (I have been slowly building a little strap collection for it now):

Nomos

The Orion Datum Weib here. Great value. Manual wind. Absolute therapy to wind every morning. And they do not take a huge hit on resale on the non PM models from what I have seen. Find a local AD that will give you a discount and it should be a non issue at resale Shell cordovan straps on most.

Nomos make a great watch, pure and refined. But some of their models have those long, thin, and elongated lugs which sometimes don't wear well. I had an Ahoi in the past and accidentally dropped it about a foot and a half onto a console and one of the lugs dented inwards. Watch was a pain to fix. Ended up selling it and no own the Zurich Worldtimer. Great watch! (and better lugs).

What a great story! I contacted the local shop where I live and they gave me a 16% discount on the basic club model.

One thing i'm interested in is where y'all think the Nomos brand is headed. Obviously they've had some great success in the past few years in terms of awards and recognition, but I wonder if they'll continue to sustain that success or fade off like up and coming brands that we've seen in the past.

Some Nomos designs had been catching my eye for a while. Then I started reading how everyone loved their Nomos, and how great the watch is in terms of quality and value. So I thought, OK, let's look through the catalog and find one without a sub seconds dial.
Wow.
Guess I'll put Nomos on "watch" until they can expand their capabilities to include the ever-elusive center sweep hand "complication."

I think the specs look great on paper & WIS rave about them, but I haven't seen a Nomos that really grabs my attention. The Bauhaus look with the skinny hands is lost on me. I guess the Zurich would be my choice.

I bought mine brand new directly from Nomos and this is the watch that I'll never sell. As a matter of fact, I am thinking of selling/trading my Sub in order to fund another one. This has become my favorite brand along with Glashutte Original and Lange.

I have been really thinking of picking one up, but it would mean putting myself back on saving for something more expensive. Tough. I'm half considering picking up a rodina just to see if it is something I would want to wear everyday.

Rolex/Tudor by day, Nomos by night. Very happy with my Orion. My son wears a Club. To say they are a great value is an understatement. They make really nice watches. No, they are not GO or ALS but they are really beautifully made watches. I'm sure there is a Metro in my future. Be sure to try them on. I've worn most of them and they tend to wear large. My 38mm fills my 7.25in wrist. The 35mm would have worked just fine. Check out their marketing pieces on YouTube. They are a serious company with a sense of humor.
