where to start?

Hey Guys,

New member here. I've been lurking around for a bit and reading some of the recent threads. You guys have a wealth of knowledge and photos - cheers.

Other than the fact that I like the watches myself, I've started looking online at Rolex's moreso because I'd like to purchase one for my father who is turning 60 soon.

This is where my problem lies... I'm so overwhelmed with all the possibilities of what can be had. I have no clue what I should get... I think he'd like a watch he can wear everyday casually, but also as a dressy watch.

I'm not even sure if I'm asking for help or ranting, but thanks for hearing me out!

If you do have suggestions or direction on how to proceed, I'd be glad to hear em!

Other than that, just saying hello!

Cheers,
Amit

Welcome
Basically you need to look carefully at all the available models and go to your local authorised dealer and try some on.
Then weigh up your personal tastes and preferences and make your selection.

Steve's right. Also keep in mind his profession, what he does for fun, etc. If all else fails, a nice Datejust is always a good choice!

Welcome to TRF!

I am with David about his suggestion to buy a Datejust ("DJ" here on TRF).

A perfect, no-nonsense and classic icon would be a DJ model 116200, either on an Oyster or Jubilee bracelet. The domed bezel lends a classic look to the model and is easy to maintain. No unnecessary bling, either. A silver dial would look stunning on this watch, imho.

Here's a pic of how it would look like (Datejust 116200, here with the Jubilee dial):

And the same model with the Oyster bracelet, but a white dial:

The slightly more "blingy" version: Model 116234, with a white gold fluted bezel:

(Source on pic).

Best of luck!
