Well, since you emphatically asked in bold type, I will tell you that everyone on The Rolex Forum will say to buy the Rolex. Good luck.

If you like big watches the DD will seem tiny. 36mm is not big by any means.

The DD doesn't need to be big and the president bracelet looks great on big wrists. More visible the better.

I love both watches as i have both Panerai and rolex in my collection.
Lets go over both and you make a decision. Rolex 18039 Price: ~12k This watch is beautiful and a rolex classic. It pretty old so you don't get the reliability of buying a new watch. Its also consider small in todays standard as 40mm is the new mens wrist watch size trend. I don't see it going down much more from this price and of course as gold goes up in price could be worth more one day. NO ONE KNOWS. This could be a daily wear but i personally wouldn't unless i worked at an office everyday. This def wouldn't be worn during activities or diving. Lastly, its gold so you cant go wrong. Panerai 270 Price: ~13k Panerai is def a watch that not everyone know but if you run into someone on the street and they say "Nice Panerai" you know that guy knows his watches. People who like Panerai, love it so if you're one of those people then you already know you want this watch. Its a great everyday watch without the worry of breaking or ruining it during activities and diving. 10 day reserve is a amazing. Its not gold but this watch wasn't made to be gold. Its a sport watch and its meant to be used like that. As far as resale value i don't believe it will drop too much as this is a 10 day reserve and not a base Pam 104 model which has taken big hits on the resale market. So you kind of have to look at what you want to wear the watch for? Do you want to impress the common person with your gold DD or the watch enthusiast with a 10 day reserve? Do you like to do sporty activities with your watch on? Lastly, i would look at your current watch collection and base what kind of watch you want next. If you have two sport watches then get the DD. If you dont have a watch and this is your first get the Panerai is it more versatile. Let us know what you decide |

Very different watches, I think the Rolex will hold its value better, do you like smaller or larger watches, do you want dressier or sportier.
What other watches do you own, are you trying to fit to a collection plan..... And as others have said this is TRF...... BUY THE ROLEX.....

Sorry, but I'd go with the Pam, you can dress it up or down with the straps and frankly, i'm not a huge fan of diamond bezels & 36mm is just too small for me.

Seems like 18039 is a "classic" as it seems to be holding it's price well
