G'day from Australia
Hello there, I've been fortunate enough to finally realise my hope of owning my first fine Swiss watch this week.
After years of thought, research and saving I finally came to the conclusion that I would purchase a Rolex. It's funny as when I started out never would I have thought I'd be looking to own one, once past the stigma though I came to realise the Rolex heritage and how I identified with it greatly. After deciding that I would purchase a late series GMT Master and missing out, the hunter for a no-date Sub began. However once going to a Rolex dealer and trying on the Milgauss GV I knew it had to be the one. It all seemed wrong on paper, too many colours, too polished, not anything like the original but on my wrist I knew it was the right one for me. Heritage without taking itself too seriously is how I like to think of it. The experience of purchasing a watch in-store, with my own full warranty is also something that I'm glad I did for my first buy. A small wrist and my generally young age (under 30) I think it's a good place to start. As I transition out of my current consumption habits (some would call it collecting I guess) I think that timepieces may be my new vice... A slippery slope indeed as I am already thinking about what I would like next! |

Nice looking Rolex Matt, it really does look good on the wrist.
I too am in Australia, Melbourne and waiting to purchase my first Rolex, either a SS Submariner or a GMT II. I am on the waiting list with a Melbourne AD, some of the Melbourne AD's advised their waiting lists were too long and wouldn't put me on there, the difference between the service of the Melbourne AD's was significant, how did you find the AD's? |
