Icon5 Appraisals for Insurance (why so hard)

Does anyone else's insurance request an appraisal before they schedule the watch on their policy?

My insurance is asking for an appraisal but since I didn't buy the watch from a dealer no one in my area wants to do the appraisal and its quite annoying I even called the AP boutique and asked what it would cost and they all pretty much say the same thing "We don't do appraisal unless you bought it from us" which sort of understand if it were just a regular AP dealer etc. But I think if I call the AP boutique I think they should be happy to do it for the mere fact that at some point if I want a new strap or a service or maybe even a new watch then they should want to keep me close I would think.

So with that said any thoughts?

You're in LA, just call an AP AD and ask if they will do a quick appraisal. Anyone can do one--heck a Rolex AD could. It's pretty worthless honestly, as insurance wants to typically see a receipt of dollar amount paid. But shouldn't be hard to get someone in LA to appraise.

Hmmm. Well looks like dealers are not so friendly in LA.

Maybe if you tell dealers you got it as a gift and that way they won't be put off that you didn't buy from them.

That is bizarre. I can't figure why in the world they wouldn't handle it. There's got to be a certified appraiser that will be happy to do it. Weird. Good Luck-

I just added a jewelry policy to my homeowners through Chubb. They just asked me for an amount and that was it. No appraisal needed.

I deal with insurance companies everyday. Just call a good broker and ask for a policy that doesn't need an appraisal. They will know. No need to stick with the same company. Price won't be much different.

Check out Jewelers Mutual. I gave them copies of the receipt and had it insured for more than I paid for. No issues.

I use them too. No appraisal is needed. They will insure for wherever you claim it's worth.

Really? I use Chubb as well and I have always needed to have an appraisal. Did you do replacement cost?

Should be pretty easy to find someone to do an appraisal even if it is not an AP AD.
