Warranty question
I have read here and also in other places that warranty cards will not be honored unless it is presented by the person who's name is on the card.
What does this mean in practice? If someone buys a new watch with x years of warranty and then sells it the next day. The new owner will have no warranty at all? Last edited by bjavor; 31 October 2015 at 09:49 PM.. Reason: grammar |

This is totally incorrect. As long as the warranty card has not expired, service will be done regardless of the name on the card. This from personal experience.

The warranty follows the watch (internationally), not the owner. Any name, or no name on the card, it should still be valid within the warranty period.

One point that seems to consistently be up for argument is that, if you present a warranty card that does not match your name you would need a bill of sale from the person you bought it from (matching the name on the card) for a proper transfer.
Don't kill the messenger folks! All I will say about it is, that is what the rep at RSC NY told me face to face, and that is what others around here have also echoed. My experience at RSC NY is that they've been quite reasonable and it seems like chances are they will honor the watch's warranty anyway, but I was told this is the official policy. Just what I was told! |

I purchased a used Pelagos several months ago that was running fast so I dropped it off at the NYC RSC which is a short walk from where I work. My name obviously was NOT on the warranty card and did NOT have any issues!! I have read on here that some folks have had to show a bill of sale but that has not happened to me!!

I was not asked for a bill of sale or receipt.

I was asked for the Bill of Sale by RSC NYC for a watch that I purchased from an AD here in NJ. My name was on the card.
The watch was 6 months past the warranty period and they told me they would consider fixing the watch for free. The watch (GMT) was losing 20 seconds every 10 hours. So I complied. They did do a complete movement overhaul for free but did not give me the usual 2 year warranty you get after a service. The watch is now running fine.

OK. Thanks guys!
Upon closer inspection I may have misunderstood what I read... This is a quote from the "Rolex FAQ & FACTS" thread found here on this forum: "Rolex will not honor a warranty, without the original paperwork or card properly filled out and belonging to the original purchaser." On second reading I think I may have misunderstood it originally. Instead, now it seems to just say that you need the correct warranty card. The one that was given to the original purchaser... |

Your name, no name, different name...shouldn't present any issues. I concur with the masses

If you are the original buyer or not, bottom line, Rolex will just do the work for free. Does not matter how many times it has changed hands, if it is within the warrantee, it is my understanding, they will just do it.
So technically this or that? Does not matter. Real world, they back up their product if you buy used, grey, whatever... And they should. |

Keep in mind that in the USA by law the warranty follows the watch, i.e. it is transferable from owner to owner. Therefore, countless situations exist where the claimant would logically not have the original invoice. For example, they bought the watch used (maybe even from an AD) or they received it as a gift. Now, it is reasonable for the RSC to require the original invoice if the claimant doesn't have a valid warranty card. In this case the RSC is extending a courtesy since they are not obligated to provide warranty service if you can't produce the card. Of course, the RSC can attempt to deny service without the invoice, and if the claimant let's them get away with it, it worked. But that response wouldn't fly with me.

When I took Mrs G's DJ to the London RSC for regulation a few weeks ago, they never asked to see the warranty card.
