Another style of eBay fraud - be aware

- item is listed at a NO-RES auction, or for a low price.
- seller's feedback is EXCELLENT, typically 100% positive
- real pics of a watch are used, not stock

What to look for:
Feedback is good and well, but how recent is it? If the last one was left over a year ago, and had nothing to do with watches, it's a red flag. Likely, this account has been hi-jacked and is being used without the real owner's knowledge.

Auction ends, winner pays, tracking number is added. odds are, it is a slow method, like USPS Parcel. KEEP AN EYE ON THE TRACKING!

If it is a scam, the label will get the parcel to your post office (correct zip code), but will be undeliverable beyond that, as the name/address will be incorrect. Close, but incorrect. For instance, your building address is 8857 AnyStreet, but it will be addressed to PO box 8857. So, it will get sent back, buying scammers more time, and rendering you unable to file a claim for the time being. What you have to do is to intercept the parcel once it lands to your local post office.

The scammers are getting more and more creative. Be vigilant.

I have seen the feedback scam, tons of feedback for low priced junk over a short period of time, you can sell anything on EBay without even doing anything and get your buddies to leave great feedback, cost is minimal
Very sneaky these pond scums!

A few weeks ago I saw a rosegold chocolate daytona for sale on ebay from a 100% feedback seller at a no reserve price starting at 1 CHF, watch location Lausanne. I was sure something was wrong, as no face to face deal was mentioned as an option nor paypal. Sent the seller a few emails that I will only bid under the condition that a face to face deal at Bucherer in lausanne was possible. No answer! Then I was a 100% sure. Still I put a bid of 2400 CHF (for a watch worth around 20,000) just to test him. What a surprise: I won the auction. Sent an email again for arranging face to face deal. Two days later an answer through ebay mail service to contact him through his personal email adress for arranging transaction which which was a german mail adress although watch was supposed to be in Switzerland. I wasn't surprised he did not complain that price was way too low, as obviously I was sure he tried a scam. Again I stated in my response mail that my only way of doing the transaction would be face to face at an AD. He responded soon later that payment should be done through an ebay agent and money would go to him only once I received the watch. Ha ha! He said ebay would send me a respective invoicelike mail with the bank data of the agent and that I should look for this mail in all my folders including spam folder. A minute later I found the mail in my spam folder! It looked very well done like it would really be from ebay and contained all my data and the date of the seller. On the bottom a name of a private person that would be the ebay agent for the payment with all his bank data was indicated. I checked the sender of the mail and it was awconfirm@counsellor.com, so definitely not from ebay (they would never send a mail to spam anyway). As I knew before that this was a scam try I was more amused than shocked. How dum must someone be to fall for such an trick. I contacted ebay and told them the story and sent the email to spoof. Apart from getting some standard emails warning me not to pay, it took them full 3 days until they finally confirmed that someone's account was hacked and blocked it. Before that, the scammer still inserted 3 other watches for sale to try the same trick.

What is the final phase of the scam? Is the box empty? Intercepting the package in that case may actually make things worse...

The box contains some cheap item, in the most recent case it was a $1 book. They just have to show tracking, that's all.

This seems to be happening more and more, unfortunately. Scammers start with a ridiculously low price (or no reserve), and put in a bunch of fake bids to bump the price, but not by too much. Then, a legit bid comes in and...voila!!...that person gets stuck with it.

Thanks for sharing! These scammers are getting too clever. If it's too good to be true, I'll pass.
