So is this the best I'm gonna find.
I want a birth year, but don't want to settle. This is the model I want. But just don't know if this is great condition for a 30 year old watch. What would you guys do????? S. This is 316l stainless and a gold bezel correct? |

Watch looks god, bracelet is tight for its age. But if you are looking for a 1985 birth year watch, you should know that the word circa, as seen in the ad, means approximately.

Thanks for bringing that up. What would be the way to accurately date the watch.

there is no accurate way to check the date without the correct documentation.
however, you can check out the vintagerolexforum.com and click on the link the vintage rolex serial number project. this would give you the best indication. other watch sites will have a guide of sorts...but the vintage rolex forum seems to have more accurate documentation of serial numbers and year of production. The serial number is located at the top or bottom of the dial face.. it will start for 1985 manufacturing year something like 86xxx the opposite side will have registered design 1601. get more pics .. most vendors will take the bracelet off and take pics of these areas.. the serial number will be blocked out for security reasons, but it will have the first 3 numbers so you can investigate. nice looking DJ.. i am still searching for mine.. |

If the date is really important to you, try and find one with 1985 warranty papers/receipt. That way you will at least know how long it has been out in the world, which is kind of the point of a birth-year watch anyway, IMO....knowing it's been around as long as you have. No one, and no serial number, can tell you exactly when a watch was made or assembled, or shipped from the factory.
