Icon19 Options for 1961 watch... gift for father

Hello,

My father was born in 1961 and I'd like to pick him up a nice vintage watch... Hopefully under $1200. I've checked with the list of preferred dealers and haven't gotten much back. what other options do I have... what model should I be looking for?

SN 643153 - 714XXX correct? if I can find a rolex.

Thanks for any help you can give.

For that price, you'll likely only find 6426/6694 oyster and oysterdate models

Bear in mind that any Rolex you find at that price will likely need another few hundred spent on it for servicing.

Too much money for that watch.

You can buy a nice Datejust for that.

This one has at the very least a replaced clasp and dial is is possibly refinished but a better value for the price and I bet you could buy it for a LOT less.

Sure an original dial from 61 is going to be harder to come by in the wild...but a Datejust is a helluva lot more watch than a 1002...and this one is definitely 1961. If it's wearer I wouldn't sweat the dial so much. It IS a 1603 with engine turned bezel. It's in standup shape it looks like to me.

what would be a good price on the watch.... even if its head only.... the bracelet looks to be form 1970 and im really not into it.
thaay have it listed on their website for $1999 looks like a $600 ebay mark-up

I called... dial has been refinished, and head only would be $1650.

is that a deal, or should I keep looking?

Not a horrible price.

The bracelet is excepting the clasp identical to what would have come on it.

Folded link jubilee.

There are also USA jubilee bracelets.

You may want an oyster like on the 1002. From 61 it would cost more than the watch.
