Swiss watchmakers experience sales drop, Apple?

I would like to see more details on the "numbers". Seems like some apple and oranges here

There's a couple of things of note in that article. One is that Apple has not released any sales figures and the second is that the graph shows the effect of the Asian slump.

I might be missing something, but this article does not establish causation relative to Apple.

Correlation is not causation.

I do not know if the Apple is the problem or it is the decline of manufacturing sales in general is at this time. I think the latter from what vendors have told me. jmho

Economies are bad. Where I am, our currency against the USD went from 3.8 to 4.4 in a blink of an eye. Once prices were adjust (not just Rolex, everything), most stores saw a slump in sales.

Weak economy and maybe the Apple Watch. Main factor is that Rolex has had many price increases and gotten too expensive.

I see tons of people wearing all sorts of smart watches, not just Apple's. So, the drop in exports doesn't really surprise me.

But I would guess that it's mainly the non-enthusiast brands that are struggling, such as the many using ETA movements. Not to mention that Swatch group has decided to slowly stop the sale of ETA movements outside of their group, forcing all the little guys to move to asian-movements... Oh plus the Euro dropping this year.

..."It's the economy stupid."

There isn't any evidence that a luxury watch customer would suddenly decide that his $500 Apple watch will replace his desire for a Rolex, PP, AP, etc. There is, however, evidence that the Asian luxury markets are tanking due to economic factors in the region. .

This. Correlation isn't necessarily causation.
