Not a must but nice to have, I traded a couple of old Rolex, no box/papers to one of our TDs here hassle free, price was fair, no lowball offer.

So why...why...why - unless you KNOW you will NEVER sell the watch... would you not want all the bits knowing most astute buyers - even if they didn't give a monkey's bum about box and papers - would use the fact they're missing as a bargaining point to offer you less! It just makes sense. |

When I was looking for a non date sub last year, i looked at a 14060m year 2012 with all documents, hang tags even the till receipt. But the condition of the watch was dog rough,so box and papers do not mean all owners look after their watchs. Condition and service papers are more important than an out of date warranty to me.

One popular TRF seller lowballed me and didn't even make an offer, they didn't decline a trade but unprofessionally said "my watch was worth much less" (14060 vs 16622) and didn't even talk about what was needed for a trade -- I'll never reach out to them in the future. interestingly they only asked about the warranty papers not the box. another was great with an offer on a GMT 16710 without papers, Alfred, I believe. |

No, not as an ashtray, as a cigarette box. It was just the right size. Most people smoked in those days. Rolex wasn't encouraging anyone to smoke, just suggesting an everyday household use for the box.
