Why not just keep it clean per Rolex instructions using warm water, soft toothbrush and a bit of Dawn dish soap or similar? Works fine on my two tone Sub with polished gold center links.

Thank you, does it damage the piece? or any other compelling reason not to use them?

Polishing clothes are abrasive; I wouldn't use one to clean off grime since grime too is abrasive. You would be scratching with the grime and them removing metal to polish..

Wash in warm soapy water and dry with a soft cloth. If you then want to polish up the shiny surfaces a polishing cloth used sparingly will make it sparkle.

These clothes will take off the brush finishes,,

Wash as per instructions. IF you need to take out the fine scratches, use Cape Cod Cloth

I stack gold bullion coins and bars. Would advise to never polish gold or a gold watch.

+1.

I GENTLY do this once a year on my TT Polished links. I do polish more vigorously my center SS links (about every 90 days or so).
