Took a fat lady home today. thoughts?
Took this home today and just took these pics. The watch I always wanted. Or at least I think. I am pretty confident it is a good one for the price I paid of just over 4k. 1987 model and will be a daily wearer. Have a few days to return it if I change my mind. Will be doing a accuracy check over the next 24hrs. Not an expert, but it looks all original to me except maybe the crystal. The magnification looks maybe a tad small, but when looking through dozens of similar era genuine watches about 1/2 look like mine an the other 1/2 look a little bigger (maybe because of thicker case/distance???. Bezel I assume is aftermarket but could really care less about that. Just looking for some feedback if I am right with my thinking on this watch as a decent daily wear watch at a fair price? Thanks

Will try and get more shots later. Mods, feel free to move this if in the wrong section. Not sure where 28 years old falls in category here.

The insert appears to be genuine Rolex but the original 16760 inserts were red/black. You are correct about the crystal, which is not a deal breaker. Nice watch for the price.

I think you did well
Once serviced, it would be a great daily driver.

Thanks for the feedback. So, from what I have been reading here, I guess I'll see how well it keeps time, and unless others notice something fishy will call it a keeper. I am not bonding with it until then though..lol. I guess there is no way to tell for sure on the crystal, and glad to hear aftermarket is not a big deal on anyhow.

Looks great! And at a very good price. Might want to try a Pepsi bezel to see if you like the look. My daily wearer is a vintage Pepsi, which I traded my Submariner for and which I'm enjoying tremendously. GMTs are classics. I'd keep it, and wear it well!

Thanks! I was really torn on this. Had another fat lady from 1984 lined up from a Rolex authorized watch shop for the same price, but had some pitting on the back so passed. Already had this one on the line when that first shop called me out of the blue and offered to laser weld the pits and lathe it perfect for the same 4k. With that and with a fresh overhaul seems like a good deal too, but that just pitting, even if repaired perfect, scared me and I went for this newer one with the better stainless. Funny, I have Pepsi bezel insert on the way so good call there Dlack. I guess I will be into it for around $43-4,400 total with a fresh service from a good independent shop and from what I am reading here need not fear I overpaid . So looks like I have my daily watch for the next few decades! Now I just need to get some feedback on some fair priced indy places to get her tip-top for her new life. Cheers!

Well, I have been testing it's time keeping abilities and she runs about 22 seconds slow every day. Tried her in different positions...even slept with her. Sm my fat lady will need a tune up. I was on the fence about sending it out right away if it was keeping great time...but now for sure. I am not bothered at all as I am sure since it is reliably slow, that it just needs cleaning/lube and adjustment I planned to do at some point anyway. So thanks for all the complements and feedback. I am a happy GMT owner now and expect to have her a long long time.
