Any Way To Tell How New? Sub-C Serial # & Minor Variances/Changes
Quick question:
Is there any way to tell when a Rolex Submariner Date (116610) was manufactured by the serial number? For example, given a particular series of serial number can one determine if it was manufactured in 2015 versus some earlier year? I am curious as my AD has a Sub-C (116610) in stock I am interested in, it has been with them for some time I believe and I am just trying to figure out if they've had it for years or months. Given that this is a totally OCD question, is there any relevance to the year a particular watch was manufactured (please answer specifically for the 116610)? I've read that for example Rolex made a minor change to the end link attachments to the Glidelock clasp of the 116610 from one year to the next (not sure which year) since it was introduced in 2010 - see: https://www.minus4plus6.com/glidelock.php Scroll down to the "More On Glidelock" section and: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=318789 Really, do most ADs only have the 116610 from the current year of manufacturing since they are in such demand? Thanks! |

How, exactly, would someone here know which of the 3,000,000+ random serial numbers issued since 2010 were used in any given year?
But, Rolex New York probably knows. Try (212) 758-7700. I'll be curious to hear their response. :) Hilo |

There has never been any way to date exactly when any Rolex was made, only a approx date when the case/clasp was stamped between X&Y years. And many serials over lap a year or so,the so called random serial started the latter part of 2010 till present time. And no matter the case stamp when buying new from any AD they all get exactly the same warranty. And no matter the case serial just with routine service in general many will out last there owners.Watches are not like loaves of bread they have no sell by date or go off,now how old the movement is inside the case well only Rolex knows that one.And they are not made for for every individual case, the movement could be weeks, months, or even a year plus old before its cased especially in watches that use the cal 3135.And today most of the Rolex SS sports are not at any AD long enough to gather any dust.

With the oyster bracelets, you know its around q2/15 or newer if the clasp is polished and not brushed from the inside.

There was a post with a slight dial variation recently on the Sub. You can search for that. But as stated above as long as it's purchased new, you get the warranty so it shouldn't matter. Polished clasp "blades" will probably mean 2015, however it doesn't mean that if it's sand blasted it's not new. My 114060 that my AD had to order in for me is sand blasted with the new dial variation, and a few other subs I looked at that they and other AD in my area only had 1 polished clasp. This was in Oct and Nov of this year.
