ROO Durability... In the "trenches"
Hey Guys,
I recently purchased my first AP. It's the grey themes ROO in titanium on a titanium bracelet. I normally wear my other pieces (Panerai/Rolex/Ulysee/GP) to work (physical job) and "night out" (ie.Vegas/Miami/etc) without worrying if it gets scratched. My PAM actually looks like it came from pre 1950 ( I kinda like it like that/with some good patina). Wondering about how the AP will hold up? I think my PAM looks great the way it is but not sure if the AP will look good scratched up. The AP looks so great the way the bezel and case play off each other right now and don't want to ruin that. I like using my "toys" and wondering if others wear their watches the way I do. Thanks Guys P.S. would really appreciate if anyone would be willing to share pics of their pieces. |

I wear all my watches with no regard for there safety. There meant to be worn. I do keep it appropriate like if I'm going to do soemthtjnng that I know I'll be slamming my way harping I wear my PAM. And my daily is my DJ II and my night is my DD. but I never thing about be scratches.
A ROO is a pretty sporty watch especially in the gray. So I wouldn't worry about it.

I always exercise wrist awareness when I wear my AP, not so much with my rolex. If your having a wild night go with the PAM

When I had my Offshore I used to cycle, run, mow the lawn etc with absolutely no issues. One time time I was doing some minor plumbing work and only took it off when the wife reminded me I was wearing it. I used to go to GTG's and people were shocked when I told them I wore it all the time.
I can honestly say I never had any issues with the movement or bezel/case being scratched.

The ROO is definitely susceptible to damage, being chunky and with such hard angles on the bezel. Only you know what you can live with but if it's a real concern maybe consider trading for a ceramic bezel' version. I'm careful with my watches and my job doesn't lend itself to damage but my ROO Diver did show a number of scuffs by the time I sold it. And the bezel on an AP isn't like a Rolex clasp that you can just touch up every now and again with some garyflex.

The bezel collects ugly scratches, if its uniform it looks good but one gash looks pretty bad. The edges can look strange too when dented. Thankfully they can be refinished damn well by the factory and you get a couple of shots before you'd risk shaping the case...

Just wear that beautiful ROO, enjoy it and don't worry about it. If and when you get scratches, they can always be polished if they'd bother you.

Wear it and 5 years later air a look and see how beat up it is. If need be, send it to Clearwater, wait 6 weeks, then be happy to get back a new looking watch 👍

Depends on your "wrist awareness". I started off with a PAM and beat the hell out of it (unintentionally). Over time I got used to Turing my wrist inward on instinct whenever their was a risk of banging it. So I have been trained to the point that my ss bezels on APs are still in really good shape after 3+ years of ownership.

I had a SS Diver for a couple of years and it really didn't have a major mark on the bezel so it can be done, but I would have other watches as well and be wrist aware.
