36mm Explorer with different bezels

I think I'm in the market for a 36mm Explorer. As I'm rather small (5'5" & 135lbs), I think the smaller size suits my body proportions best. In fact, I currently have a 34mm Date and it wears on my wrist very well. However, my Date is rather flashy (gold and diamonds) and not suited for many of the outdoor activities I regularity engage in (i.e. Hiking, skiiing, fishing, biking, etc.). So I "need" an athletic Rolex for these activities. I think I have decided upon a late year 36mm Explorer, but I really am not to enamered with the smooth bezel. As far as I can tell the smooth bezel is the only option. Has anybody, had a non-AD replace the smooth bezel with another option? I personally like the engine-tuned bezels, but I have been unable to find any pictures of a 36mm Explorer with anything other than a smooth bezel. Additionally, I have been giving some consideration to the 34mm Air Kings with the Engine-tuned bezels. Mechanically, these two watches seems to be very similar, with mainly esthetic differences (hands, bezel, face options, etc.). I would very much like to hear y'all thoughts.

I haven't heard of any bezel mods to the 36mm Explorer. That watch was designed to be simple and clean, I think a bezel mod would ruin the look personally.

Me neither Rory. I would have to agree with your assessment.

The lugs and case are too small to really do anything with it.

I'm not suggesting this particular watch, but have you considered a 34mm Air King with an engine turned bezel?

Have the same problem being a slight man. Wore Rolex sports models for years til I found the mid sized Tudor Submariner. My model is 75090. I have a black face/bezel and a blue face/bezel. They are about 36mm. Very comfortable on my small wrist with oyster bracelet or NATO.

Check it out. Won't hurt anything to look.

The best option IMO is what I've done
Buy a 116264 TOG. I love it!!! And the turned fluted bezel is very useful!!

A vintage AK with engine turned bezel makes a nice choice when you are on an adventurous pursuit.

I'm trying to visualize a different bezel on the Explorer...but I just can't do it.
