Tried this based on a recommendation and the nice bottle! Lol, I think it was about $12 and we found it to be a very nice Prosecco!

agreed! I dont have a deep pocket like a lot of you guys but when drink i love to drink something nice/rare. I am in the food/beverage industry so i taste/drink wine from $1-$100 on a daily basis for passed 15 years. a thread should be a mix of wine doesn't matter if its super expensive or an average table wine. we all have different taste palates.

No doubt. Mine is at the lower end as we are relative wine novices. We just needed something that allowed us to go to a party or work function and not only "fit in" but find something that was consistent to drink, unlike mixed drinks. I like beer but not the wife so wine was the next best thing. I got stuck doing the research as per usual and it went from there. Have 20-25 bottles of wine, mainly cab, from $10-$40 a bottle.

I look back at the days where a citizen eco drive was a "good watch" to me in the same light. Hope it takes me a while to get to the point where I don't think about spending $100 on a good bottle of wine.

We have many $100 and up wines in the cellar, but most are $30 - $50 range, but we also drink $8 - $15 and box wine routinely when it's not a cellar worthy dinner.

Funny thing is, we eat at home 6-7 nights a week and I know plenty of people who go out to dinner that often. So we look at it as "If we were eating out a $15 - $20 bottle (retail) would be marked up to $40+, so we don't feel guilty drinking nice bottles at home on the weekends when we are preparing our own meals.

Great points. All I think of when I hear box wine is the Jeff Dunham skit. "Drink the wine and use the box to throw up in".

Any good box wine recommends? That would be a lot easier than opening a bottle to have 2 glasses. We have a vacuum pump thing to re-seal the bottles but a box would be easier.

When you can find it, we like the Big House Red in the box. nice easy drinking red blend.

The Black Box brand isn't bad either - prefer the Cab and Merlot over the Malbec.

There's an Italian one we get at a local Costco, but I don't recall then name.

We were also hesitant as we have been disappointed with other bottles in our "cellar" that haven't aged well. The restaurant decanted it for us and we let it open up as we drank champagne (and prayed). The sommelier came out and tasted it with us and smiled. It hadn't broken down and was quite delicious.

Glad to hear it!! As far as affordable Napa Cab they are one of my fav's! Had this bottle over Christmas, it's their premium label, not my photo but it was the same vintage 2006 and we were falling over ourselves to get the last pour...

Very nice! We visited Brick House last fall. Haven't yet opened the 2012 Evelyn's, but did enjoy the 2012 Les Dijonnais and the 2011 Cuvée du Tonnelier. What'd ya think?

Has anyone looked at or signed up for wtso.com. Wine til sold out.

They buy smaller quantities of all different kinds of wines and sell it until they are out and then start over with a new one.
Some are $15 a bottle some are $50+ a bottle. Free shipping once you get your order over about $60 or so.

Every time I have went to wine searcher it seems that if the exact vintage shows up it is not a steal but is priced fair and is shipped to your door free of charge without tax. I need to study up on some of the other grapes as they get some very different stuff than what I am used to.

How long does a 30 year old Cab to "open" up? Especially after decanting

I'm the confused one. Marc said that was from their Premium Label, the one that I had wasn't from that label.

It was decanted, it "breathed" while we had champagne and we drank it. The cork was fine.

It probably had some life left in it but it's well beyond its peak... maybe 10 years. What a shame because 1986 produced some big California cabs
