Question about buying in Canada

As an American, I have purchased watches in the EU many times and often post advice to others doing so... Now I need some help on my first trip to Canada since I was a teenager.

The listed price, let's say CAD$10,200 for a BLNR for example, does not include GST or QST (we're visiting Quebec), correct? Taxes are in addition to the purchase price? And as of 2007, it looks like there is no longer any mechanism for non-citizens to get the tax refunded on departure?

Yes tax is levied on top of that and cannot be recouped. You may also be levied ~3% when crossing back to the states. I would suggest you use this info to help negotiate a discount even if nominal.

^^ Yeah, I am real familiar with paying duty when returning. And FYI, it can be much higher than 3% if the agent wants to be a real stickler and reference the documents they have which take into account type of metal, leather band or bracelet, quartz, automatic, chronograph or no, etc. But you are correct that they're usually too busy or simply can't be bothered. On two occasions, they were short staffed and I wound up paying nothing. But thanks for confirming the stuff about Canadian taxes.

Thanks I had no idea. Any clue where the info is available regarding the variable duty?
