Datejust II switch for Datejust

Hi all

I bought a 2015 Datejust II which I've now realised is too big for my wrist. I'd like to switch this watch for a 2015 Datejust equivalent. How can I do this without part exchanging and receiving trade for what is a brand new unworn watch? The obvious answer is to sell it privately and then buy another pre-owned. Do you think I can find a pre-owned dealer who would be willing to switch equivalent value without taking a margin?

Trading to a volume seller without margin may be hard or even impossible. I'm sure you could swing a trade with a private seller though!

Out of curiosity, how big is your wrist?

If it's brand new / unworn can you bring it back to where you bought it and exchange it there for what you want?

I'm outside of the 60 day return period the AD specified in their terms so returning the watch isn't an option.

My wrist is a flat 7". It's strange because while 40mm is the sweet spot for me, I didn't think 41mm would be so different but this watch wears bigger than say my Sub or YM.

A pre-owned dealer will trade the value of what he paid for the watch you want to trade for. Basic numbers: he buys a DJ40 for $5000 hoping to sell for $7000. You're probably thinking your watch is worth what he's asking for the DJ40, $7000. But if he trades you for $7000 he'll lose the $2000 profit on the DJ 40 forever. He'd have to sell your DJ2 for $9000, more than retail at an AD, to make $2000 on your watch. Your DJ2 will only be worth $5000 to him.

You can ask around but like Colin said, I think your best bet would be a private party.

Datejust II switch for Datejust

What about the trusted sellers here? I know they will give you anywhere between 6000 and 6700 usd. You also might be able to do a trade with them and maybe get a little cash back not sure. Final option is sell it here. It's tough tough I tried that and did not want to wait. I just ended trading it to a trusted seller. I lost about 800 but time was worth more to me. Btw it was a DJ 2 under a year old in very good condition. I had it up for a month and one person inquired about it. Good luck

Your logic is right. Not sure what a DJ40 is. You mean a "DJ" which is a 36mm. Hopfully in the future rolex will come out with a DJ40 which would be a 40mm version.

The best way if you don't want to lose money on the margin is to look for a private to private deal. If you trade to someone who sells and buys watches for a business they wont give you straight value for your watch. You can also try to sell it on here yourself and hopefully get a buyer for the amount you think is fair.

I have a pretty small wrist and i wear a DJ II as my daily wear. What makes you think its too big?

I mashed up the DD40 and the DJ2 all together, apologies. OP is looking for a pre-owned dealer or trusted seller to swap the piece he doesn't want for one he does, and that dealer not making any money. I was attempting to explain how second hand dealers do business, and how they'd value someone's watch for a trade.

If yours is new and unworn, stickers in tact, etc., you might find a trusted seller who would help you out, but I'd imagine your shot of that happening is much better if you are a regular customer of that seller and have a relationship. If it were me, I'd offer shipping both ways plus 500.00 to make it worth it to him. Worse they can say is no.

Some wrist shots would help... Personally I'd stick with the DJ2, tho it's really up to you. Just my humble opinion.

Hi just wanted to say I have between a 7.25 -7.5 in wrist that is flat. I find the 36mm dj fits perfectly. Go with what you like on your wrist. A 7in wrist can carry a dj2 no problem but I get it if you feel it looks to big. I feel its too big on my wrist as well. Good luck.

I would recommend a couple of options.

Ask the AD you purchased the watch from if they would take your DJII as a trade-in for a new DJ. He may do it and you may have to pay him an extra few hundred dollars or more. This would be the easiest way. If the AD does not deal with trade-ins or pre-owned watches, then this won't work.

Ask the same to a trusted seller here on TRF or a gray dealer. Sometimes gray dealers get a bad rep here on TRF, but they often have more inventory than trusted sellers and may be able to make the deal happen.

Thanks all for your suggestions. I still have the watch and haven't worn it since I posted this thread in mid December.

I'll probably end up keeping it because dealers want to offer me too little.

It's not really too big for my wrist, itis a really great looking watch, however it just doesn't feel as comfortable as my other 40mm watches.

Please post a few pictures, sounds like maybe you just need to get used to the size.

What color is it? I am actually looking to trade my DJ blue Roman for another watch because I recently purchased a BLNR and I love the size. I believe the DJII would fit me just right. The 36 is just a bit to small. But my watch is a 2013

Keep it, I'm sure it looks much better than a DJ.
