The Wife,,, How the heck do I handle this one ?

The wife is dragging me down to Tuscon for a big gem show, she makes jewelry for a hobby.Just let me say I don't hunt, fish, snowmobile or buy old cars anymore but I still love watches and if I'm on the computer it's almost always on this site.Yes I have had a few Rolex's and have sold all but my first but I'm always looking and talking about getting a new one.I have even left a page open from the Rolex for sale section, not subtle but she did get the hint.Any way I come home from work and she has the shows site open and has the dealers up that also sell Rolex watches.I asked why she had it open and said wellll,,,what if you find something you like ! Well hell I had no idea what to say,, my brain was screaming REALLY( and not in the happy way). So it's OK to go down and buy from some guy I know nothing about at all BUT I can't buy one from the great sellers on the Rolex forum? The brain went into full lock up, no words could come out!! So how do I bring this back up ? Just wait for the show, find something and back out saying I don't know if I can trust him? Sorry for the ramble but I'm in uncharted waters here and need some HELP.Clark.

Just go with it. You might find something you like. If you don't then let her know that the selection and prices are better on the forum - bam!

Always fun to do a little watch shopping. If prices/selection are not reasonable, then source it later...especially if she has already agreed to the purchase. Win/Win.

I had a similar issue with my wife. When I showed her how much could be saved by buying from a trusted seller she couldn't argue the point.

Plus tell her with the money you save you could go away for a romantic W/E together.

+1. Enjoy the shopping trip for a watch. If you don't get one, a trusted seller is always happy to help you out.

Go and drop a hint that you can get the model you like cheaper. The savings could buy her a purse.

Hilarious! Having your spending controlled by someone else is something I'll never understand.

I love these kinds of threads.

Start her off with a kiss, then a thank you for all the things she is and does...
Then maybe a question..." Hey is there anything I can do for you?" Then just be yourself
I bet it all works out just fine

Just be honest. Use the opportunity to test your Rolex skills and try to spot good deals and fakes. You never know what you may stumble upon. Also take the time to explain to her the benefits of all your time here so that you aren't overpaying for the watch. Happy hunting.

If the chance comes about make your purchase from a reputable jeweler with a store front that has been in business for awhile. This is the only type of reassurance you can get on the spot without having a Rolex expert with you.

Is this a joke?

What are you complaining about?

She mentions you are free to buy a new piece at this show, she even suggests it, and you have a problem?

I must be reading this wrong.

Clearly, she wants something, so you are getting a pass and a freebie. Roll with it. Seriously.

Ok, ok, I'll bite..........

How about this, you find a watch on TRF you like, write up a wire/money order, and flat out buy the watch you want how you want.

I mean...........really..............what do you think she's gonna do????????????

Quite the mind game but everyone has thier own methods I suppose. I wouldn't screw this up in that case. Go to the show and buy something if you trust the seller. If not, tell your wife bluntly and inform her how TRF works and why you trust the sellers here

She's thinking of you, be happy.

Not a fan of this leaving web pages open as a hint. I don't get it. What ever happened to open communication?

I'm going in another direction on this one.

Clearly the wife is bribing you with the possibility of a Rolex if you two go to this gem show.

First off, no offense meant here but I'd rather be in Tucson than Minnesota in winter.

So "cave in" and tell her you'd love to go to the show with her and heck you might just find that Rolex while there.

I suspect you already have the watch you want picked out. Sooo, arrange with your trusted seller here to ship the watch to Tucson.

Go to Tucson. Play golf, walk around the show and go pick up your watch at the UPS store.

Show your wife the watch you "found." Tell her how happy you are that the two of you came to the show. Suggest you do it again next year and then take her out to a nice dinner.

You are welcome.

P.S. The way you and the Mrs. drop hints on each other is charming. Reminds me of my grandparents leaving the Sears catalog out and open before Christmas.
