My Ink bottle

Hey guys, I am not a poster in this section much, nor a collector of pens, but I enjoy viewing your passions. I thought I'd show you my ink bottle.

When I was a teenager, back in the 70s (boy am I old ) I worked summers on the Great Lakes as a salvage diver. One day, I think it was 1976, we dove a wreck in about 70 feet of water in Lake Huron called the "A.B. Williams". If I remember correctly, she sank in 1862, and is mostly intact. If you search, you can see some pics and video from current day dives on YouTube. She was a two-masted schooner and was carrying coal when she went down, (something like) five miles off shore.

My buddy and I were searching around and discovered a passage to what I think was the Captain's cabin. I found a bottle and brought it to the surface. It is definitely ink, and says: "J.J. Butler Cin" I believe the JJ Butler company was a common and successful ink company for many years.

Was it actually the Captains? Who knows. But after sitting on the bottom of the Lake for 115 years, I found it. Someone, around civil war time was using that bottle of ink, and I am the first person to touch it since that ship sank, so long ago.

Anyway, it is one of my prized possessions, worthless monetarily, but priceless to me. Just wanted to share it with you

What an awesome find and a terrific story to go with it. I certainly wouldn't say it's worthless either, Paul. Something like that with the story of you how acquired it could be valuable. However, since you were the one to salvage it and have kept it for so many years I'm sure that it's priceless to you, as it should be!

Very cool Paul! I'd fill it up and get a pen for it.
