Gilt or matte dial 5513?
A 5513 with serial number 1.497xxx. Should it have a gilt "Bart Simpson" dial or matte meter first from factory? Does the Rolex factory themselves know which dial the watch originally came with? If both are acceptable what dial should one try to obtain? The watch is equipped with a gilt dial "feet first" today.
Does anyone have any knowledge what the dials sell for today separately? I would guess the gilt dial is the most expensive follow by meter first and feet first last just by looking at the prices on the asking prices on the watches. |

If Rolex do know then they are not saying. It doesn't have to be a Bart for 1966, other gilts are common also. Bart should only turn up on a late gilt serial though. There is no such thing as a correct gilt feet first. At 1.497xxx it could be a matte metres first of gilt.

As Waspy pointed out, 3 dials would likely be correct: a classic coronet gilt, a Bart gilt, a meters first matte dial.

A decent gilt will be at least 5k usd, probably more unless in poor condition. Metres first matte, not sure but a lot cheaper. Perhaps around 1k.

Thanks again for the price estimations. I guess either way it would be money well spent. Just need to make up my mind what dial I would like the most.

I'm not sure if it would be money (or time) well spent to be honest. Unless the watch has a lot of sentimental value, I'd probably sell it as is and pick up a piece with the correct dial. Trying to find a loose dial and matching hands could be a long and frustrating process. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I understand exactly what you mean about spending and in that process waisting time finding a dial (and matching hands if the current ones does not match the "new" dial). It could be a frustrating but also rewarding. It´s not a big deal for me. I like the watch as it is. Had it fully serviced by Rolex four years ago. I am kind of attached to it as it was my first Rolex. Owned it for many years. Could consider finding the "correct" dial a long run project.

Can you post a picture of the watch as it is now? Curious to see what a "gilt dial feet first" looks like (which we know shouldn't exist).

The dial is matte feet first. I should have corrected my first post.
