Explorer II 16550 service parts
I'm just curious-
If someone hypothetically had a beat-up 16550 that needed a new dial (let's assume it's not a cream dial!) and bezel, would the service replacement parts be 16570 parts? Or does Rolex still stock thick-font 16550 bezels? And would they use a 16570 service dial? |

I think the dial will almost certainly be a modern Luminova number. In terms of size and fit dials for both 16570 and 16550 are interchangeable, so they'll put the most up to date dial on.
As far as the bezel goes, I honestly don't know. It's not uncommon to see 16550's with 16570 bezels out there (on the auction site for instance), which makes me wonder if RSC fits the newer bezels during service. As with the dials, the bezels are also interchangeable, and I fear that what's an important aesthetic difference for us, might be regarded as a simple issue of up to date upgrade for Rolex. Again, that's my hunch and I look forward to hearing more from others. -GW |

You'd get a 16570 bezel from RSC.

I thought so too, based on this listing:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mens-Vintage...QAAOSwaA5WjVbL And also, there seem to be many fat font bezels with missing paint suggesting that a fat-font service replacement was NOT an option. |
