Opinions on 16750

Aloha Members,

I am looking to acquire this 16750 from a local dealer here in Hawaii..

I just want some assurance from all you seasoned collectors. I am sure you will have things to say happy.gif

Concerns: 2 o'clock dial markers patina is darker, over time will the rest of the markers continue to patina in the same fashion?

Please see attached service paperwork and pictures, and be honest please!!!

Mahalo,

Brian

That hour plot would bother me. So would the over-polished case.

Yep,

The 2 O'clock lug would be a deal breaker for me. As soon as I see a springbar pointing out, I don't go any further. The other log hole I can see is also pretty "rounded".

What's the receipt from Bob Ridley? Was that work done by the previous owner? There are a couple things on there that would bother me. If I'm reading it right, the hands were color-matched and something on the case was laser welded. I would pass on that alone, not to mention the other issues mentioned above.

Now, Bob is fantastic, and there's nothing wrong with making these types of repairs on a watch if they're needed, of course. However, if I'm in the market for a vintage GMT, there are others out there that don't have these issues.

I'd like to see a "before" the $2850 service pic!

Lugs that you can see look badly and over polished.

That GMT must have led an interesting life, the invoice looks like what an ER report for Evil Kenevil must have looked after a bad jump.

As others have stated, case is over polished and that off colored lume plot would bother me as well. Plenty of other examples out there to chose from.

Could the laser weld at 1:00 have been done with the dial in situ? That maybe why the 1 plot is darker.

There's some real value in a recent Bob Ridley service .....

As an aside, I can remember buying 1675s for the cost of that service ... and it wasn't really that long ago

Back on topic, the recent Bob Ridley service means the watch should be in absolutely fine fettle. Bob's reputation is absolutely top tier.
This means the buyer really can focus their energy on the aesthetics, without having to worry about any problems lurking within.

If I could live with the obvious flaws, I'd pay a premium to get a watch that was freshly serviced by Bob Ridley. His warranty may be transferable to the new owner too

Certainly no one here is questioning Bob's work...he is a pro and we all know that.

Howevwer we have no clue what the seller even was asking for the watch (only Bob's invoice was stated), so too early to say if it's a 'bargain'.

But looking at that case/dial, I wouldn't touch it, no matter how nice the inside is

I'm sure it's in fine fettle after spending that much on it

Too many people just seem to say "Send it to Bob Ridley" as a be all and end all for servicing a watch on here. Next time someone says that I'll point them to this thread too.

Very smart....yes, I agree...explains why only that one plot is discolored.
