How rare is this?

Hi friends,

Am looking for my first vintage... and chanced upon this.

Looks like a really old, genuine piece.

Owner has it passed down from his dad and does not know how to price it.
He also mentioned that he has the bezel replaced years back

Any friends here can help?

Looks like a transitional red depth dial 6536. If it fair dinkum it's worth quite a bit. The dial looks pretty ordinary but that won't stop it being worth plenty to someone.

It's a neat idea...it's a cap jewel. :-)

Watch is probably worth a lot more than you'll have to pay....

Early 6536/1 with "red depth." A fairly weak example of a rare model, the dial has aged significantly and the markers appear to have been renewed or restored.

Maybe someone stuck some red color putty in insert hole to fill it. That hand set with long hour hand is pretty rare to find as well. Dial needs good macros to tell much more. Looks like it may have lost its gloss age or moisture and lume plots have the black stain it seems or perhaps an older re lume to them. Still a rare example of the issue and worth keeping or passing along to someone who likes it. IMO it is not a top quality piece but the rareness helps it as to value.

Dear friends, thanks for your advice.

The bezel, including the pearl, has been changed. Its a grand old lady, is her condition expected of her age?

How rare is it, as I read that possibly only 10 pieces exists?

Hi Michael, thanks. The dial has indeed aged significantly. Do advise how to tell if the markers were renewed/restored?

Hi Bro, yes the pearl has been changed. Can a rare example, but in such condition, can hold its value?

Thanks again, for your advice and insights, I am learning lots here

This is second time someone quoted this I believe and as I said before, I have owned three examples of the red depth and a friend bought one just a month or so ago. So I don't believe this at all. They are much more rare than the white/silver print but I think you will find quite a few in hands of collectors etc.

Study thousands of old dials in your hands and under strong magnification, spend years owning and buying similar watches, attend shows and auctions every chance you get.

It's a great watch and I like the pearl. My 2 cents; I would check the radioactivity as I am a hypochondriac. I have seen many of these red depth, so the ten piece estimate is good humour to me. It's still a very unusual watch.
