rolex 6350 1953 - auction
Whilst looking at local auctions to me I came across a nice under valued vintage explorer, not even pictured in their catalog. estimate £700 - £800
Looks like a 1953 6350, with original honeycomb dial, slight issues with lume on hands (shrunk) and dial (number 3 as an example), on a usa jb champion oval link strap, thought it was a nice model to get back into vintage collecting (sold all mine to pay for house renovating before they all jumped up in price!) Strap has some flex but looked all nice, wrong crown.... but i could live with that! Was it to be......... no! lots of others found it online........ sold today for £23,000 + 15% auction fee! Might just give up on vintage and end up buying a modern rolex! |

Auctions generally underprice some items to increase interest
Seems a nice watch though, but i'm not well educated on explorers What auction house did it go through?

lockdales in Suffolk - lockdales.com
I was hopeful as they deemed it so low it didn't even get its own picture in their auction catalogue. Just think they didn't expect it to do that! I'm sure the seller was happy tho! |

This happens all the time with a lot of collectibles.Auction Houses always throw a couple "Sleepers" in the Catalog to get Bidders thinking they will get a deal,The result is usually someone overpaying for said item.

on a plus point if i see an early explorer, I know a lot more about them!
Did a lot of background reading, before even thinking of bidding. And its got me back on here, even if I don't type much I enjoy reading a lot! |
