Sub-C was real curious about the brand and the glidelock clasp.

Rolex submariner 16610. I bought it in 2005 when I was an expat, I always loved the watch. Funny thing, I sold it to get my DSSD, got exactly what I paid for it. I LOVE the DSSD but could not get over the loss of my 16610. I hounded the buyer for months until they agreed to sell it back! I will never get rid of it and it will be my Son's watch one day.

My first Rolex product was a Tudor big block chrono with the black bezel purchased new in 1992

My first Rolex was an E series Submariner....that I flipped the Tudor for in 1995.

16610 in 1990. Paid cash from my first big bonus. As I flipped out a stack of 100s, the AD glared at me like I was a drug dealer. That summer, I almost lost it while sailing a regatta in Lake Erie. On a strong gust, a rogue wave swamped the boat and it started to sink. We were picked up by another racer nearby. After the boat went down I convinced the Coast Guard to return me to the site to search for my duffle bag in which the submariner was stowed. When we arrived a crew mate and I dove off the stern of the coast guard boat to retrieve our bags. The uptight the coast guard guys nearly lost it, and threaten to arrest us. The boat was still hovering near the water's surface. So I swam down about 15 feet into the cabin of the crippled sloop, through the murky Great Lakes water and retrieved my bag. The coast guard guys dropped their objections when we climbed safely back aboard. A month later I traded that sub in for a seiko yacht timer, one of the early predecessors to the the Rolex Yachtmaster II. It was a watch I really needed for sailing and one I didn't mind getting beat up on the foredeck while working the spinniker. Today, I really wish I had kept that old sub. It'd be cool to still have it.

What a great story! I used to be doing a lot of competitive sailing at that time as well. Never sunk a boat, but we came close during CORK race in 1991 where we finished with a big whole on our bow! I hope you still do some racing. I don't do it any more and I miss it a lot!

I sailed the CORK once. What a great party. I don't race any more, but I try to cruise the British Virgin Islands about once a year. That's a great trip if you've never tried it. As a former racer, they'll issue you a captain's certificate and let you take any boat you want.

I just wanted to reward myself for a great professional achievement and went for a regular sub but ended up buying a Hulk. Love from first sight.

~~~from one boat kid to another, enjoyed your retrieval story. I grew up on the Detroit river, Lake St. Clair
2 tone datejust with white roman dial and jubilee bracelet 16233 from 1995. Still have it but I had my local Richemont AD (not Rolex AD) service and polish it.... douchebag watchsmith rounded all of the case edges. It was nearly pristine when I took it in and figured they would lightly polish the case sides. Gutted everytime I look at it, haven't worn it since.
