The current Datejust is reference model #116200 (smooth domed bezel) or #116234 (fluted bezel). These were introduced in 2008, replacing the previous model numbers 16200 and 16234.
Datejust size of 36mm is the same for decades, however the current version has a newer bracelet design (for both Oyster and Jubilee style ). If you use the search function here, input 116200 , you will find many pages of information about the Datejust.

New 116234 has polished lugs vs. brushed of old. The new lugs are slightly wider as well.

The bigger lugs, plus the wider hour and minute hands make the new models visually appear bigger although both old and new are 36mm (non-DJ II).

The newer DJs feel more comfortable on the wrist. My 116200 feels better than my 16200 (now sold) ever did.

DJII smooth bezel is flatter and wider than the smooth bezel of old. It's a more modern look. Bigger crown and wider lugs, too.

As said above various differences on size, crystal and movement. The 1500's are 34mm, 16000's are 36 and newer 11600's are 41mm. (some people say at Basel 2016 the 41mm DJ will be discontinued and replaced by a 40mm Datejust)
