HELP Sub winding gone wrong..
Ok so when I bought my new TT Sub a few months ago, I would wind it about once a week and it was so smooth, I could barely even feel it winding, but now when winding after about the 10th turn its got this funky feel to it, like it feels rough while winding.
Kinda bumpy and not fluid anymore. Anyone ever experience this? I'm very picky about my baby and I'm nervous. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I bought the watch new a couple of months ago from AD. I peeled the stickers off and signed the warranty card. I wouldn't think it needs servicing in less than a year? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Doesn't it just mean it's fully wound?! If you're wearing it regularly then it won't take many turns for it to be fully wound (if at all)

No but you could be feeling the clutch that prevents over winding. Once mine is completely wound it feels different. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yep...it's just got a full wind. Your feeling the tension or resistance due to that. And yes...with Rolex movements it tends to have a rougher...almost light sandpaper type of feel to it once it's fully wound. No worries though, it won't hurt it. However, when I'm wearing a fully wound watch...daily, I tend to not top it off until I'm forced to change the date because of a short month!

It will only take 30 to 40 turns to wind if the watch is not moving. It sounds to me like you are over winding. It could feel different if you are winding when its already fully wound as the clutch would be engaging . There is no need to ever wind your watch if you wear it daily and are moderately active (not sitting at a desk for entire day)

HELP Sub winding gone wrong..
Agree. If it feels good for 10-15 turns then starts to feel "weird" as you describe, I'd say you're fine. That weird feeling is the watch working as it's designed - not allowing you to overwind the mainspring. On another note, if you're wearing the watch daily and it's keeping good time, it's not necessary to manually wind.

If you wear your watch daily why would you wind it if it's still running.

I believe activity can wind it and not just maintain. I wore my sub everyday for about a year and never wound it. If it only maintained when I wore it wouldn't it wind down at night off the wrist? This should cause it to stop after a short amount of time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Get it checked out.
I can wind a new ceramic sub all day long and the feeling never changes so drastically that I immediately notice and consider it "funky". You can't over wind your watch and when you pass the maximum, the slip should be gentle . Not a completely different feel to turning the crown.

Easy to diagnose....
1.Stop wearing and winding the watch. 2.Let it go dead in a day or two. 3. Wind your watch. 4. How many winds did it take before it felt resistance? If a: 10 turns...send it for service. Rolex makes a million watches a year and for their price tag QC is lacking. If b. 40 turns...your watch is fine |
